I am a male in his early 40's. Recently, last six months, I started exercising after a few years hiatus and watching what I ate, lost some 40lbs of fat, mostly around my middle, went from a nearly 46 waist, to a nearly a 38 now. I was feeling great, jog 4 miles/6 days a week, do push-ups. Last week, thought I'd treat myself, went to a party, over-indulged, drank a few pints of beer, hadn't had ANY alcohol since last New Years, and had half a hero sandwich. Well, the next day, and for over a week now, I have gurgling in my stomach, and lower intestine, loose stool and a general feeling of discomfort. After about a week, it seemed to subside, but, every time my stomcah is empty now, I feel the rumble and noises from my lower left side to the bottom. No pain, no frequent feeling to 'go', just this general feeling of discomfort and thos e damn noises are embarrasing. I tried eating Yogurt with live cultures, and it calmed it a bit. But, today, the stomach rumbling returned till I ate something. This is now entering week two, it can't be from beer and hero from 10 days ago?

Hi, CA.
Sounds like you are human like the rest of us. The general tendency is to start feeling much better by doing just a few healthy things and THEN, subconsciously, decide to spend the benefits by going back to the bad habits!
Your symptoms suggest that one of the places you are close to the edge of your cliff is LGS (leaky gut syndrome). You might go to the home page article about this and see the glossary for any unfamiliar terms while digesting the archives for any more needed info.
Let us know what you learn.

Thanks. No doubt I live under constant stress, here in NYC. I've lived here all my life, through blackouts, riots, 9/11. The symptoms have changed the last three days, now I'm just getting more gas and heartburn when I eat, but, they seem to be fading. I guess I;m most concerned with the rumblings and 'thin' stool. Ahh, 40+ can really kick you in the guts. Thanks again. :)

Thanks, CA.
Remember that storage of stress-effect in the hypothalamus is cumulative over a lifetime and reserves for coping with the physiological consequences continue to leach away as one ages.
What you are describing is typical for this problem. The solution is to work harder to achieve the same health results that youth used to accomplish without conscious attention.
