Stress Can Cause Your Face to Have More Wrinkles and to heal more slowly

From www.mercola.com:

Are anxiety, dejection and confusion "written all over your face"?
Researchers now say that this figure of speech may prove to be true.

A new study has found that stress appears
to decrease the skin's ability to function properly, heal wounds and fight
disease
.

Researchers looked at 27 medical, dental and pharmacy students at the
University of California, San Francisco who all had healthy skin. The
researchers measured levels of anger, confusion, anxiety, depression,
fatigue, and tension on three separate occasions over 8 weeks in 1999,
a time period that included two vacations and a week of examinations.

In that time, the investigators repeatedly applied and stripped sticky
tape from the students' forearms. The researchers then measured how quickly
the participants' skin recovered its ability to essentially "breathe"
properly.

The research team found that skin recovery seemed to
be directly linked to stress levels
--with high stress during
exams associated with the decreased ability of the aggravated skin to
return to normal function.

The authors conclude that they have found the first direct link between
stress and a decline in the ability of the skin to resume normal functioning
after disruption. Aside from recovering from having sticky tape applied
and removed from the skin, this link
may place a stressed-out individual
at greater risk of common skin disease
, such as psoriasis or
dermatitis, the report indicates.

DR. MERCOLA'S COMMENT:

Controlling stress in one's life is important
for many issues, not just wrinkling in the skin. We all need some stress
in our lives. If we had no stress many of us would be dead.

The issue is having the resources to handle the
stress. Exercise is also necessary for good health, but in excessive doses
it can also cause
skin
wrinkling
.

I find prayer and journaling to be one of the
most potent ways to normalize stress in one's life. There are, of course,
many others, but I think these are some of the most potent ones.

Sorry, letters turned out bigger than I anticipated. nmi

That's interesting, R.
I've always believed that stress has a very large effect on more things than we know about. However, what I want to know is, and sorry for using your post for this purpose, is stress mostly psychological or not? This article seems to agree with me that it is. All I'm really looking for is the truth, and I would appreciate if dr stoll would have the guts to stand by his 90% claim that he won't explain.

Thanks, R.

Stress speeds aging of EVERYTHING. Selye proved it and Pelletier spells it out.

Hi, cd.

The reason I have not "documented" the 10% claim is that I have done it so many times on this BB that I am sick of it.

My references have been Selye's book; Dr Shealy (Founding president of the AHMA) and Dr Pelletier's book. I don't know how many references you need but it is past time for you to go to the references rather than asking ME to repeat them "one more time".
