Dr. Stoll, please give me a little help.................

Posted by Desperate!!!!!!!!! on March 27, 2001 at 22:57:25:

Hi Doc Stoll,

I am new here. I have been having a long-standing problem of stiffness and pain in my whole spine. I already know that my biomechanics are all off but I don't know why or what I can do about them. Please listen to some of the biomechanical problems I am having and if you can, tell me if you think these are causing my pain. I will work from the bottom-up.

First off, I have a misaligned bone in both feet causing my ankles to rotate inward. Nothing will stop this, not even orthodics. This is causing rotation of the hips too. My hips are in a constant "foward Position" and my low back has this ridiculously excessive curve. My mid back seems to curve out too much and my neck, well, that gets very interesting.

I found out today that I have "8" cervical vertebra. There are only supposed to be 7 but I have 8. Also, the chiropractor that made this diagnosis showed me on x-ray that my atlas bone was so far out of aligment, that it could be considered a dislocation of the bone. He said it is a miracle that I am walking and talking and that i seem to maintain a decent mood. He said there is major nerve interference in my neck and low back and these could be causing the multitude of other symptoms I am having including fatigue, digestive problems, weight loss and hyperactivity. It is really difficult to deal with. I have been seeing chiropractors for 4 years with no long-term improvement. I have been rolfed with next to no improvement. I feel like I am out of options. I practice SR faithfully twice a day and have been doing so for over 1 year. I have not noticed anyh benefit but I do it anyway. Do you have any idea how I can get my spine back into alignment again? This new chiropractor says that all the chiro's I saw were no good because they did a general adjustment. He says that he adjusts the atlas and specifc bones that are out of alingment only and nothing else. I am willing to give it a try but I really can't waste time anymore and crappy therapies. I am losing the batle with my pain, stiffness and suffering and I need to start seeing results. I am holding out emotionally but I am starting to break. Any solid ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Hi, Desperate.

How did you certify that your SR was actually reaching the alph/theta rhythm?

Have you checked your intracellular magnesium level?

Rolfing would do you a world of good and the results would last a year or so. Practicing Alexander Technique OR Feldenkrais would help your Rolfing AND the correct SR to work better.

See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms and let us know what happens.

Also please respond to the first 2 questions above.

Walt

I had the SR evaluated by Biofeedback. I had a feeling that could be a problem so I had it checked. As a result, my DHEA also went up. I am definitely doing it right.

No, I had magnesium checked through blood test only (maybe this is what you mean?) How do I get this test done?

I had all 10 rolfing sessions done. There was only one benefit. It helped me feel more centered. That's a good thing and I realize it but my spine is all still out of whack. I also had another promising event take place. The chiro that adjusted my atlas told me to note any differences, good or bad, when I wake up the next day. Well, to my suprise, I woke up with almost no stiffness in my neck for the first time in a number of years. He adjusted bones in my mid and low back yesterday and I have achieved similar results (much less stiffness, pain, and more movement). Other chiro's adjustments only lasted a few hours at most. I am going on 2 full days here. This, I think, varifies my assumption that a lot of my pain is structural. Another side-effect that I have gotten is that I am now constantly hungry. I woke up yesterday feeling like I haven't eaten in 2 years. Even when I eat, I am hungry within 30 minutes. And, to top it off, I am having 3 bowel movements a day out of nowhere. This is very strange but suprising.

Any other suggestions you might have? I told you about the feet issue. It makes sense that if the feet are not aligned, it would throw the rest of the body out. Anyway, thanks for responding so fast

Hi, Desperate.

You seem to have done everything right and you should be a lot better than you are. How often are you doing your SR?

Check the archives about magnesium.

Thanks, Desperate.

Very unusual. The first thing that comes to mind is that you are exposed to some kind of stressor that is exceeding your efforts at reversing the effects.

Since the science for finding such stressors is still in it's infancy, looking for THAT (those) would likely not be cost effective (yet). That science is rapidly being developed, not a little because of the Human Genome Project, SO you need to keep up with those developments (Best reference is the FMU subscription at (800) 843-9660. I would suggest a year's subscription as a very good investment.) Let us know what you learn.

My suggestion for now would be to learn about Alexander Technique OR Feldenkrais and choose one to do regularly for long enough to see how much that will help. The chances are, still, that you will eventually reach a threshold where your hypothalamus will reach a point of homeodynamics where it can overcome even your unusual burdens.

Let us know what happens.

Walt
