Eye twitching

Dear Dr. Walt,
I am a 33 yr. old woman presently in therapy for clinical depression, anxiety disorder and PSTD. I've been attending therapy weekly for 5 months. I am not yet comfortable opening up and am nervous each session. I know this will eventually get better. I'm starting to trust my therapist. During the last 4 appointments, my left eye has twitched most of the 50 minutes. I've always been a nervous person, but I've never had this problem before. I don't know if my therapist has noticed, but it's very embarassing to me. I can't concentrate of therapy because I'm fixated on my eye twitching. I'm sure it's stress related. I don't know why it's just now happening. If I think about my eye twitching it will. Even when I'm at home. I need this to stop. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get it under control. I'm on the medications Celexa and Trazadone. I don't know if the meds would have anything to do with it.

thank you,
aria

Click the link below and you'll see eye twitch as a symptom of stress. In fact all your symptoms are classic stress. While you're in the glossary reading up on stress, also read up on anxiety and SR - skilled relaxation, and click on the links to the archives. You need to start SR, and the Stress and Relaxation Workbook mentioned so often on this site is a good place to start.

Hi, aria.

Listen to Roy. Eyelid twitching is ALWAYS caused by stress.

Go to the archives and read about eyes, stress effect, about brain chemistry and about SR.

Let us know how you do.

I think the twitching is either because of low stomach acid or low magnesium. I have the same problem sometimes.

Thanks, Mike.

You are right about the magnesium. I appreciate your bringing it up. I did not mention it because stress ALWAYS is one of the causes and magnesium is much less commonly involved.
