Hi, Walt
My mother had a mini-stroke the other day and I just found out about it. No medical care was given until around 12 hours later! She soiunds good, however, has problems with her toes. REportedly she was unable to walk or talk for a while. They're putting her through physical therapy.
I've no idea how long she'll be in the hospital, however, like to know what she can do to prevent any further attacks. I'll tell her again about SR, however, she tends to do what she wants. She'll listen to me, but. Previously had major heart attack about 6 years ago and made full recovery.
Trying to get a hold of my professors for extension. If unable to I'm going to Ft. Myers anyway.

Walt,
Received apparent incorrect information from Dad as learned she's unable to walk and does not have much use of right arm.Originally, she was unable to speak whatsoever and when I spoke to her earlier had NO problem understanding her.
There's talk of them admitting her near future to inpatient rehabilitation unit possibly 2-3 weeks. I was ready to go crazy after the first 2 days of my 10 day stay. (At least, I had full use of my right arm)
This is unbelievable to be happening. Feel like I'm having a nightmare and will wake up to learn it was a bad dream. (wishful dreaming)

Hi, Paulette.
This was a severe TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) and the only hope she has of avoiding permanent damage is CHELATION.
Since chelation is something someone else does TO her she is likely to actually DO that. However, even the chelating physician will tell her that this will only put off the inevitable unless she is willing to change her lifestyle that brought her to this state. A Pritikin program would be ideal (library).
She can be warned that the way she was when this first happened is the way she will be permanently unless she does the Chelation ASAP.
Good luck.

Hi, Walt
Thanks for the reply. A few months ago when it was thought she had macular degeneration, I advised her and my dad about chelation and it apparently fell onto deaf ears. This Sunday I'll be going to Ft. Myers to see her and be returning the same day. I'll have an opportunity to see first hand her condition. I will be certain to speak to both my parents, and hopefully they'll listen to me this time. (sigh) Parents, they just don't want to listen to their children at times.:-(
I'll let you know what happens.

Hi, Paulette.
SO, she was NOT so lucky as to have the warning that a TIA is. Chelation will not help this but she is very likely to have another stroke extending the damage already done. The chelation would help prevent that.
This has to have been a "clot like stroke" rather than a "hemorrhage type stroke" (Vince).

Hi,Walt
I was afraid that you'd be confirming my fears since learning of my mom's stroke. It hurts just to type the word "stroke" when speaking of my mom. (sigh)
Years ago my dad was fearful of having a stroke or heart attack and went through a series of chelation therapies. Unfortunately, mom and I scoffed at the idea of him going through these therapies without having any heart problems. I've changed my attitude within this year, doubtful mom will be changing hers. (sigh)

Hi, Walt
I somehow got my hiny out of bed this morning @ 4:35am, drove to Ft Myers and saw my mother personally. (no other family present:-))She looks fantastic and using both of her arms. Admits unable to walk far distances, just short distances aided by holding onto the bed or wall. No outward signs of having had a stroke. (Thank God)
Learned that mom became annoyed with the hospital cardiologist, and complained to her personal doctor. During his final visit, dismissed him and told him to get out of her room, she didn't want to see him ever again! She was advised that the clots were caused due to her heart medication, and that it's possibility of having further episodes. The medication had been changed over a year ago and did not include a blood thinner. The nurse came in to give her medication, and I almost laughed out loud. She refused to take the medication until she knew the name of it and why it was being given.(and I thought I was a smart patient!) Reminded her about the chelation therapy and she advised, I promise to look into it after I get out of here.
Can heart medication or any kind of medication cause the blood to swirl and eventually cause clots? I've never heard of anything like that before in my life. This surprised me to hear mom convey this information.
The trip was worthwhile just to hear mom giving it to the nurse and not taking any xud9 from the doctors.:-) Never knew it was in her before.:-)

Hi Paulette,
Good for your Mom!!
What is xud9? I realize this could be a typo but couldn't decipher it and was curious.
How are YOU doing now?

Hi, kmd
I'm doing much better since seeing my mom. I'm running late for my group study. It was so nice not having to contend with my siblings or father while there. I kind of snuck in and out without them knowing. My sister had just called as I walked into the room.
That was a bleeped word as it was the nastiest, dirtiest word you could think of.:-) LOL

Hi,Walt
I am at a loss of understanding what is happening as far as my mother is concerned. It seems so inconceivable that a woman suffering from a stroke, not being able to speak, walk, or have full use of her arm could recover so quickly!
Learned earlier that instead of having to go through the 1 -2 weeks of inpatient rehabilitation, the hospital Discharged her yesterday morning. Reportedly she was too far advanced to be admitted to the rehabilitation unit. Instead, they'll have at home rehabilitation sessions. (gee, I wasn't able to skip that step after my surgery)
I'm very pleased to learn she's been paroled from that facility, however, baffled as what to expect henceforth in her recovery.(?)

Hi Paulette,
Sounds like great news. You know, you may be able to put in a call to her doctor to discuss her condition. My mom's doctor was kind enough to talk to me about my mom last year when everything was hitting the fan (and I didn't feel like I was getting the answers I needed from asking my mom herself.)
A stroke is a whole different ball game than surgery. Probably recovery varies widely! Glad to hear your mom is doing so well so soon!!

Hi, kmd
Thanks. My first reaction was of joy and happiness, however, I'm becoming conditioned for the other shoe to drop so to speak. I remain thrilled that she's out of the hospital, especially in the middle of the holiday season.
I'll be sure to make it to the christmas celebration in Ft. Myers this year. It appears we all have a lot to be thankful for, even after thanksgiving.

Hi Paulette,
I know what you mean. But remember that "waiting" for something bad to happen is like a form of bracing (isn't it?) I too am just learning to let myself feel the joy when things are going right and try to stop myself from waiting for the next thing to go wrong or thinking about the "what if's", - letting my fears get to me.
Bad things will happen of course, we just don't know when. It is a real trick to not live in the future and in fear. Good luck with this, try to be happy for now...

Hi, Vince
According to the doctors who've done all the tests, it comes back a stroke. I've spoken to my personal doctor and it comes back the same. I'm just wondering if all the supplements she's taken for years have anything to do with her rather quick recovery. It's sure not due to her diet, as she eats what she wants, when she wants, but only if she eats. (eats like a bird)
I'm thrilled so far with her recovery and learning Not to wait for the other shoe to drop. Kmd is correct in that sounds like a form of bracing and I've been the queen of bracing for years. (No mas)

I don't remember everything off hand. Know she takes selenium, potassium, organic germanium, glucosomine chondrotine sulfate, vitamin E, B complex, ester C, and a few others. That's in addition to her heart medication.

Those are the only ones I'm sure of at this point. My family has always been one to take supplements, mainly due to my dad curing himself of RA many years ago.
It's only within recent years I've begun to take the supplements. That was after my auto accident 4 years ago.:-(
Sure wish I knew of a supplement which would reduce the number of pills she takes daily basis. (sigh)

Hi, Paulette.
All this means is that most of her deficit was a TIA. That means that chelation could still prevent her coming further damage.

Dad is making it daily routine to massage her foot in order to help her regain movement as well. It appears to be working as well.:-) Believe he's busier now since her beocming ill.

Hi, Grace.
The medical definition of a TIA is stroke symptoms that last less than 24 hours. ANY symptoms that last longer are actual stroke symptoms.
If your docs are still classifying this as a TIA, she needs less ignorant physicians.
There are many different kinds of stroke. She does not have hypertension; so that rules out one kind.
Many stroke symptoms DO get a little better with time. SOME actually go away completely. However, allopathic medicine does nothing about the underlying cause so recurrant symptoms are VERY common. Her eye symptom is severe and I would be surprised if she ever regained use of it.
If she really wants to try to avoid (or at least delay) the next episode, she will look into chelation.
Let us know how she does.

poor vision. She see 10 books whre there is one, or a whole row of

except from memory. She had it on 23rd November and she is still the
same. Doctor said she should be a lot better in 6 months! Her Blood
Pressure is 80/40 and Dr was surprised by the TIA/stroke. What do you
