I am addicted to chocolate. Seems like when I have problems or get anxious, first thing I think of is chocolate. Its an instant pick me up. Takes my mind off any problems. Its the best lover I have ever had.
Its getting beyond a joke. I just almost finished off 10 clusters of chocolate in one sitting. When I am eating it, it makes me feel better, so I have more to keep that feeling going. I know I am stuffing myself, but cant stop. Dont tell me about will power, it aint gonna work this time.
Any other ideas???
Like maybe some nutrient missing in my diet causing intense chocolate cravings. The more I have, the more I want. Please, anyone????

I like chocolate covered nuts but they make my clothes get
tight so I try not to buy them that often since the bag
Goes in 2 sitings. I did find a brand with lighter
chocolate that doesn't seem to put weight on but I am
thinking that I get slightly bloated from the other.
If you have no problems from eating it then why worry
especially if you can't stop and you feel better ??

I LOVE Chocolate covered almonds. mmm, my favourite. See, I am getting another craving. Thanks Vince F.
They dont make my clothes tight, but its not healthy cos once I start, it becomes a daily nightmare. Plus my digestion is not that great, to keep up with the daily assault of chocolate. I am sooo sad about that. I wish chocolate was a health food like organic juices, salads etc. If only salads could taste like chips, chocolate, cakes or ice cream. Why are all the yummy tasting foods bad for you and the not so nice tasting ones, good. I dont know, wish it was reversed, dont you! I bet in heaven it will be!!!

Miss X,
I don't think that the bad ones taste that good, it's that we're accustomed to the sweet taste. A few years ago I was put onto a very strict diet involving no sweets, very if any salt, eating certian vegetables raw and when I did eat sweets disliked the sweets including chocolate. I even got off of the soda as well.
This is exactly what I'm in the process of redoing as I am TIRED of being heavy, unhealthy and man made sweets weren't what are ancestors normally ate. Yesterday was the first day in which I had no sweets and feel well this morning. I awoke around 4:10am, did my SR session, did a few chores before showering and getting ready for work. It's now 6:09am and I'm just about ready to leave for work:-)Real proud of myself this morning.
Anyone can do anything they really set their minds to. I used to say things like, I need my sweets and sure enough I attacked a chocolate bar or something not good for me. Did I want some sweeets yesterday, yes, but I convinced myself that I no longer needed them. Try it. You'll be surprised with yourself.

Thanks for the encouragement. I feel all bloated now from all the chocolate. Trying to wash it all down with some green tea.
I have never had a sweet tooth. I was more a savoury lady. But every now and then, I get chocolate craving. I dont think it is the sugar, because I cant eat real sweet things. They taste awful to me. Like my body cant handle it.
How much of your diet back then was raw foods? So you went one day without having sweets and already notice the difference. I am impressed.
I am sure my body is lacking in something. It maybe magnesium. I will give it a try and see if it helps. Do you think chromium picolinate would help too, or is that just for sugar cravings.
Thanks muchly

I read an article once that said exercising releases the same endorphines that you get by eating chocolate. Perhaps you need to exercise more?? haha I remember that because I worked with a woman who had chocolate cravings all the time and I brought in the article for her. She said she'd rather get her endorphines (I think that was the name of them) from chocolates LOL Dr Phil says that temptations are good and a way for us to empower ourselves by resisting them :) Good luck!

I think that chocolate with nuts is a Health Food, just
like ice cream with nuts.

Your problem sounds remarkably similar to his. Strange huh?
But if you can't get no satisfaction, maybe this will help.

I like your reasoning Vince. You really think that chocolates with nuts is a health food?! :-) Well, hows this, I am just about to get some hot chips to help my digestion. Strange logic that, but I need something hot at the moment!

Miss X
Yes, I'm feeling pretty good and at work a earlier than usual. It's not that I loved sweets, but got kind of bored or just wanted to munch on something, so instead of munching on something healthy I took the easy route of grabbing a candy bar.
I'd say that 90% of my diet back then was raw vegetables. At first I'd make faces, however, after the first week loved to eat raw broccoli, green beans, zucchini, sweet potatoes, etc...
Drank at least 10 8 oz glasses of water per day, then was permitted to add unsweetened ice tea w/lemon as well as decaffinated coffee.
I take Chromium picolinate in order to help burn the stored fat in this old bode, along with my daily multi vitamins.
Two weeks ago I was at a baby shower and ate a medium piece of the cake and found it a bit sweet. Yet, I ate it and then washed it down with decaffinated coffe.

I dont feel so good now. ;-(
After all that chocolate and hot chips. Bad choices today! Oh, well, maybe green tea will settle things down for me. B.B. I am also at work at the moment, but not feeling half as good as you. I will have to make some better choices tomorrow. That temporary pleasure aint worth this misery!

you are the only one who can do anything about it!
I'll tell you what I told Gregory, even though I was accused of trying to float a lead balloon. (thanks, Greg)
just say NO. Don't eat it and the craving will go away.
It's that simple.
good luck.

Much easier to say when you dont have the craving yourself. Mine is real intense, much more intense than usual.I can normally resist. I have tried the self talk, works temporarily. I know in reality that I should resist, but it is soooooooooo difficult.
I am sure it is my body craving something. I may try the magnesium. Do any of you get sick and tired of having to take all these supplements? Geez, will we have to do it for the rest of our lives or what? I will have to get another job just to support my vitamin habit. ;-)

You may be suffering from a lack of commitment.
Commitment makes it easier to take action. Once you know you're not going to eat refined carbohydrates, for example, there is no need to decide whether to have that piece of chocolate or not. You already know you won't.
So focus on strengthening your commitment, not fighting your cravings!

of course, I don't eat chocolate, either!
Once you start getting well again, you don't need a ton of supplements.
If you replace chocolate with a healthy whole food, you might just get the magnesium (or whatever) you need. Other than that, I agree with Jan. It takes committment. I've had all the cravings, so I do know how hard it is. BUT I really wanted to get well, so I made my choice.

I read there was a study that showed that what people really want with their chocolate is the soothing stress-relieving texture. I also read once about a chocolate/acetaldehyde/dopamine cascade. I just got some Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips because a friend had some I kept swiping a few of--I took some magnesium today too.

Thanks, Jan.
It is sort of like the smoker who "could never quit" until she found out she had lung cancer or emphysema. Then, when it was too late, suddenly achieved the "committment" to quit.
The "magic" of the PWFD is that the average person's cravings disappear within 3 1/2 days. To be sure one is not just a late bloomer, the PWFD must be kept up for a week.
I have yet to see anything but habit remain at that time IF the person was being compulsively perfect. MUST have Beth's book at hand to have a chance of doing it PERFECT.
THAT is how one can break this vicious addiction with the least pain.
Namaste` to all the chocolate addicts out there.
Let us know how you do.

Hey thanks Walt.
I am naughty though. I am sitting here eating chocolate as we "speak". I have given into temptation once again. Its very convenient for me and so totally unhealthy. But does dark chocolate count as somewhat of a health food? I heard it has antioxidants in it. ;-)
Funny you mention smoking, cause last night I dreamt that I was smoking and I am a non-smoker. It seems all my vices are starting to come out. ;-)
I will definitely check into the PWFD book cause I want to kick this habit once and for all. I know its not good for me and normally I have great willpower. Actually I have been meaning to get a copy of her book, but I havent got around to it. But with all these testimonials flooding in about how important diet is, I am willing to give it a shot. Do you think I will lose weight on this diet, cos I dont want to lose anymore weight, I am at my ideal weight now, dont want to start looking anorexic. Will I have enough energy on this diet to keep up with my regular activities or do most people go through a detox when beginning?

Hi, Miss X.
You are allowed to suffer all you want :>).
You will likely feel awful for 3 1/2 days. If you can get through that, you will be able to tell us how you feel in 2 weeks and you will be amazed how much your chocolate has been costing you.
Until you do it you will never know.
