Dr. Stoll,I have been using this website as an educational tool for two years now and I have learned a tremendous amount. For three weeks, I have been following the candida diet and have realized for years I have surpressed emotions in sugar. I have also been taking Yoga and practicing skilled relaxation. All has been going very well; however, I noticed about a week into the diet my dreams became very vivid. I have never dreamed before. Is the diet change related? Is sugar that strong that it can supress your subconcious mind as well during your sleep?

You have dreamed before. What is different is that now you are remembering them. Sugar has a
number of unpleasant and damaging effects on the brain, (and indeed your entire body) a number of
which are bound to affect how you "process" subconscious signals.
The practice of Yoga and especially SR is also going to do much to activate subconscious information.
As you clean out your bodymind, expect more recall of dreams -the dreams you have been having all along.

How very interesting... I find this has been happening to me as well.. and a lot of the things I remember dreaming about are elaborations of stressful situations from my past. So these "new" (or actually old dreams as you suggest) makes me aware that I might be torturing myself and causing myself more psychological stress than I *think* I am. Thanks for your comments... that's interesting.

Hi, dstone.
This is a very common experience and the answer to your question is a resounding yes!

Until one is freed of this addiction they rarely have any idea what it has been doing to them all those years.
This, too, shall pass.

I don't remember much of my childhood. Will SR help with that as well?

The question is why you have been supressing your childhood memories. Good SR will put you into theta,

It isn't ncesarily torture. The elaboration may be the way the mind uses to discharge the

psychlogical stress. By acknowledging the situation that caused the stress in a "safe"
environment (safe=asleep & not real), you are able to process the situation, come
and come to terms with it. That it reoccurs in dreamstate suggests that parts or the
whole of it wasn't completely resolved while conscious.
