Sugar & Me

Posted by Maria on September 30, 2002 at 17:49:22:

I was suffering quite badly with seborrheic dermatitis of the face and scalp. Since cutting out ALL sugars, including fruit, It has cleared up. My face no longer is flaky and dry, my scalp no longer itchy and red. I think I could live without sugar. I think its when we are really unhealthy that we get those awful cravings, or maybe also using it as comfort food too.

So that includes no chocolate either or Chinesetakeaway. :(

But really, it hasnt been too difficult. I am still reading Beths book at this stage, but probably for the last four days have been watching closely what I eat. I do find that sugar is my worst aggravator of everything for me. Lucky for me I dont have a sweet tooth, but it was the insidious sugars. Even fruit that was affecting me as I do have candida from many years of taking antibiotics.

Maria, that's great!

It's great that you've seen such dramatic results. I wonder if you are (additionally) allergic or sensitive to sugar? I too recently cut out sugar. Unfortunately, I *am* a sugar FIEND! What I was most shocked about was discovering how sugar is added to EVERYTHING! I can't even get suchi anymore, because they add sugar to the rice. It's really upsetting. And even the other day, I ordered a carrot juice at a healthfood store... in tasted quite a bit better than the carrot juice I make for myself, and so I found myself wondering if they had added something to it.

Congrats on your results!

Carrots acutally contain quite a bit of sugar and moreso the juice only. If you are on an anti-candida diet you're really supposed to limit your carrot consumption. That's probably why the juice tastes so good, because of the sugar, that is.

Great sounds like the ego self with our eating is not screaming out so loudly-ha! I want what i want, i have a rememberance of pleasure and now i crave that, rather then discover what my body wants and listen to what feels the best. Of course when we are addicted it is dificult to listen correctly;

Thanks for sharing again to another about the carrots; It is best to use only 2 carrots and mostly make a green drink while juicing; Zuccinni is nice and celery, cumcumber, spinach or lettece and parsley [beets are great also], bell pepper for some folks [who can tollerate it] is nice also;
I love cilentro and ginger in mine, great to drink for breakfast! Keep on listening towards health!

Thanks guys, but doing elim/provoc diet...

.. so carrots is one of the "safe" foods. have begun provocation part and so I've basically cut back carrot consumption to every other day... I will try experimenting with other juices later... for now the only additions I could try (that you recommend) would be the zuccinni, celery, and now the spinach (snce that tested safe).

But...

Juice is not a whole food!!! Whole carrots are fine because of the high fiber in them. The fiber slows the absorption of the sugar.

McFerran found that WHOLE fruits and sweeter veggies are fine in moderation even if you are battling candida...but if you're extracting all the fiber to make juice, then of course your ingesting a concentration of sugar!!!

I don't mean to be policing you Wendy, I swear!!!! :-)

I have sushi safely now and get a lot of sashimi - the sushi without the rice! As long as I keep the rice down to say 1/4 of the volume, I feel good about it.

you can police me anytime. :)

For my Whole Foods/Candida diet, I am following Beth's book. Bascially, she does allow for small and infrequent consumption of vegetable juices (say 6 ounces) - like carrot.

While I hadn't been drinking any veggie juices during my elimination/provocation diet, last weekend I was in a predicament (severe relationship problems/away from home with no pre-made food) and the only thing available to eat that resembled food on my safe list was carrot juice from a healthfood store. This was the reason for the infraction...

I hope things are better and that the testing is going along smoothly.

Things are going pretty smoothly... except I'm not usually a very emotional person, and having an emotional crisis DURING this IS making it difficult. But I'm just plugging along anyway, writing down any reactions (and noting other emotional factors besides, etc.)

I'm so new at this, I'm obviously still trying to absorb info. So any "critique" or advice given is *always* welcome.

I think the emotional crisis could very well be part of the process. I know when I've broken other addictions in my life - cigarettes for one - emotions ran high for me sometimes for months. It really IS a cleansing experience!

Hang in there,

That can't be good...

or can it?

I remember a comment you made some time ago that told me he was not supporting you in your substantial efforts to be well.

It may be bad right now, but a whole new world can open up for you.

I repeat: Hang in there, Wendy O!
