I wake up every morning and the first thing I think about is what good thing can I eat for breakfast with my cofffee and it MUST have sugar in it!! I eat sugar in my office through out the day for many reasons. I also drink regular Pepsi and eat to many bread products and if they involve sugar, the better. I have sore tissue at most of my joints could this be a result of my sugar intake? I must be addicted because, when I think about cutting back on my sugar intake I always talk myself out of it. I am a very good cook and if I want something sweet,I just simple bake it. Needless to say I am about 50 lbs overweight but I am sure you already knew that. I could just cry.

Sounds like you're pretty addicted. I have been addicted, too, several times in my life. I've also unaddicted myself. If I were you, I'd start small. Quit drinking Pepsi.
Just that one thing, and you know you can do that, will make a huge difference. So, start thinking about what you can substitute instead of Pepsi and all soda pop. You've got to have something to substitute it with.
Of course, water would be ideal. But if you can't do that, pick something else, iced tea (even if you put sugar in it is fine), lemonade, watered down fruit juices, SOMETHING else. Don't drink diet drinks. Once you see that life as you know it is still worth living, you can make other substitutions. Hey, if all you can do is quit drinking sodapop, you've made a huge positive change in your diet. From little changes, big things happen.
And if Pepsi would be too hard to give up, pick something else. Quit eating baked goods. Or quit eating cookies. Continue with the rest of your typical diet. Just pick something you can be successful at eliminating. Just one thing.
From little changes, big things happen.
Do not despair. Do the best you can, that's all any of us can do.
I hope you get some more responses. There are some really focused, helpful people on this board.

Hi Brenda,
I know a woman who is crippled with just about every kind of arthritis there is. She's tried "everything" to cure her condition. EXCEPT she refuses to give up sugar-loaded foods. She eats ice cream like most people drink water. Everywhere I have read, sugar is one of the contributors to arthritis. I just don't know how she skips over that when she reads those articles.
See the article about the Whole Foods Diet on this website for a great way to eat healthily.
Best wishes,
Happygal

Hi, Brenda.
Listen to Happygal and Alexandria. Some people just cannot change anything until they have suffered enough.
Good luck!

I have both osteoarthritis and chronic fatigue syndrome. I experienced a major decrease in joint pain when I lost 40 lbs, by cutting back on sugar and carbohydrates. It took about 18 months. It is hell at first to give up all those wonderful treats, but eventually you don't crave it. A weight loss support group might help you thru it. I used hypnosis, and that helped me overcome the psychological need to feed my stress with junk food. I still listen to the tapes as part of skilled relaxation.
