My friend is hypothyroid, what should I suggest Doc?

Posted by Lanie on April 15, 2003 at 21:14:56:

Dear Doctor Stoll,
I just found out that my girlfriend is hypothyroid. She said that there are no alternative treatments for this and that if she doesn't take her medication she will die. I'm betting she is wrong, but I don't know what to tell her. What should I say?

Hi Lanie,

One thing you could do is a search on hypothyroidism on the net or go to an alternative medicine site. You should get enough information on the subject so that if she can be convinced she will be. If not, there's not a lot more you can do.

Good luck.

Hi, Lanie.

This reminds me of the joke: "How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb? Ans: Just one but the light bulb has to want to change."

Your girlfriend needs a little more knowledge. IF she is willing to change her mind she can clear this up. That will take study and determination.

She can start with the thyroid archives and let us know what she learns. She will need to practice serious wellness for 6-12 months.

The alternative is a lifetime of depending upon the medical profession. There is a chapter in my book about this as well. She could see a graph about why just taking thyroid replacement is a setup for other chronic problems by asking her local lending library to get her a copy of my book. Would not cost her a cent.

Lanie, your friend needs to educate herself on her condition. She won't die from this; she can approach it from the nutritional standpoint and do herself a lot of good. I've been hypothyroid for years and haven't ever felt as good as I do now. I don't take thyroid hormones; just supplements and my thyroid nodule has shrunk considerably. She can go into remission naturally.

To Cheezi, how do you do it?

Cheezi,

That's great that you can control your condition without thyroid hormone. Can you share your regimen? Thanks!

Just a very easy regimen, Robbie. I started using a soy-based nutritional supplement for migraines a few years ago. Reliv makes it. Good thing I didn't know that people were saying that soy is bad for people with thyroidism, or else I might never have tried it. I've only seen good results with this stuff.

Ok, I'll pass it along. I'm also going to re-read the chapter on thyroid myself. I have a feeling I should have known what to tell her already. Just a note, Easter is tomerrow and I don't even want any sugar. I feel better every day. Thanks Doc, you're the greatest!

Thanks, Lanie.

Now if you can still say that a year from now. Boredom is the next phase for you to go through.

Namaste`

Walt
