Sugar

Posted by Denise Darcet on October 21, 2001 at 13:07:24:

I eat too much sugar, I know I do. I want to cut down. I use 4 tsps in my coffee. I know this isnt good. What can this do to me and are sugar substitutes like Equal better than refined sugar?

Depending on who you are, yes, Equal can be worse than sugar. Both should be avoided. Equal can give many people headaches.

But the sugar in your coffee is probably the least of the problems. flour, pasta, potatoes (without the skin), white rice and a myriad of other foods hit the body just like sugar. And until you eliminate those foods as well as sugar, you will continue to feed the addiction.

Dear Denise,
I have bought several books that helped me understand why sugar caused havoc in my organism. These were books about sugar, hypoglycemia, Candidiasis (yeast syndrome), premenstrual tension and many more.

From your response I read that you're maybe not into books. In that case you could find an alternative practitioner who could both explain things and give you advice customised for you.

In any case, it is important that you realise that sugar is like a powerful drug – that is, to those who are addicted - that if you stop it, the withdrawal symptoms might be so big that they will hit you like an illness. This can be scary, so it's good to know about it in advance.

Also it is good to know about other conditions that might have followed high sugar intake, which then might show to be a problem. Many of the conditions on this board that people frequently ask about are connected to a high sugar and refined carbohydrate intake.

When you have figured out that you should go off sugar, you have come a long way, but at the same time, that could be only a tip of the iceberg. That's why you have prepare yourself to learn more - either through books, or knowledgeable folk who are good at explaining, like many on this board, or through a professional.

Hope this helps.
Good luck!

Sonja

No, Denise.

It is available via any library system and you still have to read it if you want to be successful at this with the least amount of time and the least misery while doing it.

No one says you have to DO anything. Only if you want to feel better.

Denise,

I have personally done this and can tell you that it only takes some discipline. Beth's book answers your question--that is why I suggested it.

I am not going to type out a 400 page book just to save you $20.
