I looked at the archives to see if you have a nutritional RDA archive, but didn't find one so I shall post again.
I got the book called Nutritional Healing by Balch, and it says one should have 900 mg of potassium a day.....and 500 mg of sodium. Yet when I surfed the internet I find everything from 1000 to 5000 for the potassium to 1500-2000 for the sodium. How is one supposed to know what to consume?
I am trying to change my diet, and want to chart my changes and progress, but how do I know what is the correct amount to have?
Thanks!

Hi Patsy,
RDA? How can one standard fit all people? Everybody needs different amounts of different nutritional substances.
Often the best way to know how much is right for you is by trial and error. Take a certain quantity and see how it makes you feel. Adjust it up or down and see how that makes you feel.
That has worked for me. It has taken a while, but I've really honed down how much I need of each supplement I take. It can be VERY different from what is recommended.
Best wishes,
Happygal

I don't know how one could be sure what they were consuming
unless the food you ate was tested. I go by what foods I
crave and what supps help me function and very few supps
change the way I function and only when I do extreme things.
They are the only ones I feel I need so I go by what works
for me.

Pasty, This the best way to find out what you need, but it takes some effort..Start with one or two supps, and give them enough time to work, maybe 8 or 12 weeks..Then ask your self do I feel better, worse, or the same..Don't be in a rush..Good health is a life time quest..Silver Fox!

Hi, Patsy.
The RDAs are so far out of mainstream thinking that even conventional physicians are beginning to know better.
Listen to Vince, Happygal & Steve. Your personal bodymind laboratory is the only (as yet) accurate way to design your own nutritional requirements.
Start with whole foods and the "Perfect Food" (green lable) from gardenoflifeusa.com
Let us know what you learn and how you do.

the natural ratio of nutrients in FOOD is your best guide. The ratio of potassium to sodium in foods is close to Balch's recommendation.

Thanks everyone,
I guess I was hoping to find a list that was basic to all humans. I have OCD and need a guide, i.e. a rule of thumb, that I can start off with.
Recently, I was on an antibiotic that robbed me of my flora and electrolytes, and so I am trying to correct that, but also improve my diet, while I await the test results for c-difficile.
Just this morning I noticed my calcium-magnesium-zinc supplement says it supplies 100% of daily nutritional needs by taking 3 tablets a day. Hmm, does that mean if I get calcium in milk, cheese and other foods, that I am overdosing on calcium by taking the supplement?
My husband says the excess will be excreted thru my waste system, and to take the supplement.
I will check the archives and can anyone recommend any good books. I will also check out the source that Dr. Stoll recommended.
Thanks,
Patsy

If you want a truly worth source of information on nutritional healing I would check out the Weston A Price Foundation.
