I've been trying to take swanson fish oil, it has 500mg of epa/dha per capsule and i'm taking 4 a day, but the aftertaste is horrendous, does anyone use this brand? and is there any brands out there that don't have an aftertaste or any suggestions for not getting the fishy burps? thanks
mike

Hi Mike,
Even the lemon-flavored fish oil capsules make me burp and taste it over and over. I have better luck with enteric-coated fish oil capsules. Fisol is the brand I've taken, but there are apparently others that advertise no fishy aftertaste.
Wishing you the best,
Nutmeg

I second that post from Nutmeg. The entric coated fish capsules work great! No after taste or burping.
SAM's club has a good product, good price and entric coated.

Mike,
I also have a problem with burping rancid fish flavor.
I can still remember the way the dead fish on the beach smelled when I went camping as a girl.
I've had no problem with this whenever I used Carlson's lemon flavored fish oil.
I once tried a different brand with lime flavoring, and it was like drinking something you'd clean the floor with. Gaaah.
Back to Carlson's for me!

Hi Mike,
Hmmm, can't answer your question without looking it up online, because I'm out of Fisol and taking something else right now. It's made by Nature's Way, so maybe you can find something on their product page.
I have a hunch it's lower than most fish oil caps, because these caps are smaller so you'd have to take more to get the desired dose of EPA & DHA. I think that's why I hesitated for a long time to try it. I seem to recall the bottle said it's more absorbable than regular fish oil so you can take less, but that may or may not be true.
There are other ways to get omega 3s. Some people can take flax oil, and doesn't borage oil have Omega 3s? I saw an ad recently in one of the free magazines from the health food store (Delicious Living, I think) for an Omega 3 supplement that's made from algae instead of fish. Then you can burp algae instead :o)
Someone mentioned something in passing in a recent post/thread about lipase enzymes--a recommendation from Mercola. I'm thinking it may be a suggestion to take lipase (fat-digesting) enzymes with fish oil to enhance digestibility and absorption. Going to look that up myself now...www.mercola.com.
Good luck,
Nutmeg

Thanks, Barb.
Now, all we need is to get everyone to actually read what we have been saying about this.
