I know that my body is not producing enough melonin? which brings about the skin pigmentation of a tan, but what can I do to get it to produce. Am I lacking in something that I could take to help this. My skin is very pale and I have to keep out of the sun mostly because I burn easily. I do get a little colour after about a week, but not much and I have to be very careful. I don't want a very deep tan, just a moderate one would do. Why don't I tan?

Hi - There are many people, including me, who burn instead of tan when out in the sun, and then, instead of the burn changing to tan it just disappears! It is very important for people like us to wear lotion which protects us from the sun.
There is nothing I know of that you can do to change this. You were born with the type of skin which will not tan.
There are cosmetics on the market which you can use to give the illusion of a tan. Hope this helps a little. Raisa

I too cant really get a tan I do after so many burns. Its not worth going out in the sun I had skin cancer already from this when I was a teenager I went to the beach all the time and got burnt so bad I had 3 degree burns some times. I now use self tanning lotions you have to get the good ones. I used the cheap ones and turned orange but try a couple and see which ones work for you.One word of caution immediatly wash your hands and dont put it on you toes because my hands on my fingers turned orange and my toes also. and you wont see results until a couple of applications.

Hi, Pasty.
Consider that, just 100 years ago it was considered a quality of beauty for women to NOT have any evidence of tanning. This was the reason for genteel women to always carry parasols!

Finally, your healthfood store can help you learn what nutritional micronutrients your body uses to make melanin. By taking high doses of them it is very likely that your body will start to make melanin. This just means that you need more of the building blocks to make melanin than most people.
Hope this helps.
