tinea versicolor

I am 19 and have TV..I absolutely hate it. I cry when I think about it and cannot do many things that I used to because of what it has done to my body. I was applying the ketoconazale cream and that didn't do anything. I am not washing with selenium sulfide twice daily and I was wondering if anyone has had any hope with this. I have read many archives saying that it will never go away..how depressing. Can anyone help???? Any advice???? Thank you...Georgie.

Good News! You can cure it as far as I can tell from the information on this BB. Start at the link below and read those archives. Be patient and read them all, you never know when you will run across of really pertinent information.

Then, you should probably get yourself into living the habits of a wellness lifestyle. You can also find all the information you need about that on this website.

Hi there Georgie!

In search for a "cure", I surfed throughout the Tinea
bulletin board archive and I found alot of useful
informations that might help you. I pasted some of it on my
note-pad, and I pass it on to you. Hope it will help...This
skin condition is quite the pain in the ass and tv must be
stopped!
Anywho, my advice to you is: FOLLOW THE ADVICES BELOW. I
can't personnaly tell you if it works or not because I'm at
the very begining of my "killing fungi treatment", but from
what I've read, it looks effective. Hope it works...for
your sake and mine and all the other tn victims out there.
Farewell, young one....

""First of all, skin replaces itself every 4 weeks (on the
average). Since tinea versacolor is a fungus, and fungi
live only on dead stuff, you have to treat this for at
least 4 weeks to be sure that is gone for good. Any less &
you will almost certainly get it back (like you did).

Selsun Blue is strong enough to cure nearly everyone's
tinea versacolor. NOTHING anyone uses can kill the fungus.
The best it does is keep it from growing into new tissue so
long as you use it. That way, it grows the condition right
off your body. If you skip one treatment, the fungus can
"jump" into the untreated tissue & you have to start all
over.

The problem is that it is messy to do it right: Take your
bath at night and, after you towel off, smear selsun Blue
over the areas involved & leave it on. Put on a granny
nightie and sleep the night. In the morning take a rinsing
shower and don't rinse 100% of it off. Repeat this daily
for a month.

Remember, anyone can be allergic to anything. SO, if this
causes you ANY irritation, stop using it."

"I had tinea versicolor earlier this year, started in the
spring and got really nasty by early summer, to the point
where I could not wear anything the showed my stomach, arms
or back. I read the archives and also posted a question,
this is the information I followed and it worked, no more
white spots : ) You have to use the Selsun Blue EVERY day
for four weeks. After you bathe or shower, buff your skin
with a towel while it is still damp, this gets the dead
skin off and allows for faster healing of the tissue. After
you do that, put the selsun anywhere you have the tinea and
don't just spot treat, get it all over the area to prevent
new spots from forming that you may not see yet. Leave it
on overnight, yes it is a bit messy but wear an old shirt
and make sure you wear a new one each night and never use
the same towel two times in a row. Also, I followed a no
sugar, low carb diet, meaning no white flour products or
rice, which convert to sugar in the body. I ate mostly
veggies and some fruit but maybe just one piece a day, also
lean protein. This seemed to speed up the recover for me, I
don't know how it works in everyone but it certainly can't
hurt you. After about 2-3 weeks, I noticed the spots were
less and had started tanning over. All in all took about 6
weeks for them to be gone and tanned over but it takes 4
weeks for the skin to renew itself completely. Stick with
this program and you should see the results."

"I had tinea versicolor earlier this summer, key word, HAD
: ) I used selsun blue, the 1% every night and buffed my
skin with a towel as Dr. Stoll and others have suggested.
It did take about a month or so before I noticed the spots
had stopped spreading and I had been in the sun, they were
tanning over. I can tell you they will tan over as you are
doing your regimen but, for them to become completely tan,
it will take about a month or so, at least that is how it
was with me. The most important thing to do is buff the
skin after you get out of the shower/bath with a towel, use
a new towel each time and then apply your topical treatment
overnight, rinse off the next morning and use a light
moisturizer. I would also pay close attention to my diet,
cut the sugar, white flour, rice, white pasta, anything
that will convert to sugar in the body and read up on
candida and LGS on the board here, it made a big difference
for me. When I first got it last year, it was not bad and
the doc then told me that it would take 16 months IF I used
the Nizoral pills and followed thier protocol. I NEVER took
the pills, over the winter it was probably still there but
less noticeable. When spring hit and I tanned, there they
were, worse than last year and they spread at first. All I
did was the buffing and the selsun, tan, and now, they are
gone. Stick with it and don't miss a day, watch your diet
and stress and you should be able to wear the summer
clothes soon : ) I wish you the best of luck. "
