tinea versicolor questions

Hi Dr. Stoll,
I have read most of your archives on tv.
I have a few questions about tv: Can tv be in your groin area? Are there any other diseases that can be mistaken for tv? I have read that your diet can contribute to it: How exactly can I control tv through my diet? (do I read labels and stay away from as much yeast as possible?)
I have not been to the dr. YET, but I have looked at tons of pics and read about tv I feel storngly that is what I have.
I will know for sure in a few weeks when I go to the Dr.
For now could you PLEASE help me I would APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH if any one could help!
Thank you so much,
Heather (email crzgrl20@hotmail.com)

Thanks, Heather.

Most superficial fungus infestations look very similar. Frequently, distribution of the rash is the thing that makes the diagnosis--short of biopsy or successful culture (difficult).

This sounds like tinea cruris and not TV.

Any topical antifungus cream (along with careful terrycloth buffing after each bath), used at least twice a day for at least a month, should clear it up.

THEN, to be sure you do not get it again, be sure to use the buffing with each bath.

Let us know how you do.

Walt

Thanks for your reply Dr. Stoll and every one else, too.
Dr Stoll I looked at some pictures of tinea cruris and read about it. From what I understand, though I am not a doctor,
tc is also known as jock itch. That could be the case for my groin and buttocks, I did not include this info in my first post I also have the same thing on my chest and neck. ( or what looks to be the same thing)
I also got a couple of emails from other visitors to your site ( god bless you) saying that tv can be in your groin and buttocks area. I will know for sure in a few weeks,
although from the pics I looked at I am pretty confident about the rash on my chest and neck ( maybe groin and buttocks) being tinea versicolor. But any hows THANKS BUNCHES for y'alls help. I will be in touch and let you all know how its going and try to offer some help.

Thank again,
Heather

Thanks, Heather.

Most superficial fungus infestations look very similar IF distribution is not taken into consideration. It is likely that you have 2 different kinds of infestations at the same time.

Without a biopsy, or very difficult to grow culture, all physicians make their diagnosis the same way: considering distribution when both rashes look the same.
