Sensitive skin...Facial Cleanser

Posted by Susan on February 05, 2003 at 06:41:11:

Hi,

Just hoping someone can suggest a good Facial Cleanser.
My skin is very sensitive, no dyes, colors, or perfumes.

Many Thanks

I have very sensitive eyes to many products (even hypo-allergenic ones.) I tried Jason's Ester C moisturizer and Jason's Vit E cream, and it didn't burn my skin or eyes. I didn't see a cleanser bu that company so I tried Nature's Sunshine Botanical Benefits cleanser and it didn't hurt my skin or eyes. It came in a tube and is light and you don't need much. Cost was not too bad. I got it in a health food store in a rural Texas community so I am assuming it is easy to find. Hope it helps you.

I have very sensitive skin and I use Cetaphil, it's recommended by Dermatologists...it's super gentle, fragrace and dye free AND they sell it at most if not all drug stores for about $4.99...they also sell lotion

Hi Susan,

I have dry, sensitive, maturing skin and use several Earth Science facial products. A-D-E Creamy Cleanser (has a touch of fragrance added, but it doesn't bother me), Almond-Aloe Facial Unscented Moisturizer, and Apricot Night Creme (day and night). A lot of health food stores and natural food stores carry this line, but I now have to mail order them except when I can get to the big city to buy it. For gentle daily exfoliation I use Skinsation Face & Body Cleanser by Products of Nature, also by mail order. They also make a moisturizing cream, but it's not rich enough for me.

These products are priced somewhere between department store prices (Clinique, etc.) and Walmart stuff.

Aubrey Organics sells a lot of facial, hair, and body-care products in HFS's, but you have to be careful. They don't have added chemical fragrances, but they usually contain a lot of natural oils that can have a strong fragrance.

Do you know of any mascara that is easy on the eyes? I have tried Almay, still hurst my eyes. They turn really red.

Yonka and Decleor

Susan,

I am a licensed esthetician and I have extremely fair, sensitive skin. I like two brands Yonka and Decleor. The are more expensive than drug store brands, but cost effective because a little product goes a long way. The are sold at salons and spas so you may have to do some checking around to find them. Both brands are botanical, not chemical so they do not contain alpha and beta hydroxy acids which can irritate your sensitive skin. Hope this helps. P.S. I know many people with sensitive skin who swear by Cetaphil, too, but I haven't used it myself. Cetaphil can be purchased at costco for a much lesser cost than drug stores.

Hi Susan,

You might try using just water and a washcloth. That's all I use. Actually I use a slightly scratchy washcloth to "exfoliate" (remove the dead skin). My skin has never been better since I started using nothing but water.

Best wishes,
Happygal

Happygal,

I'm guessing you don't wear makeup, right? Good for you!

I hope to regain my nice complexion again, but for now there is still too much redness from rosacea and the broken capillaries. I use a cover-up and foundation to even things out, then wash with the moisturizing cleanser followed by a gentle exfoliating one to help with the skin cells.

Hi Nutmeg!

Makeup and I never got along very well. It always makes me look worse instead of better.

One of my clients had rosacea -- so I can understand why you do! I hope you get over it soon. Actually I think you look beautiful just the way you are. :o)

Best wishes,
Happygal

Thanks, Happygal...you're a peach :-) and so is your skin.

A lot of people compliment me on my rosy complexion, so I think I must be wearing the right amount and type of foundation! Thankfully they don't know how purple and red and blotchy it can be underneath. I will get the rest of the way over it soon!

Be well,

I always come back to Lancome Defincils.

There's a sensitive drugstore brand...by covergirl, it's a
peach and white bottle...and that's good too.

I know Lancome probably has loads of unnecessaries
in there; it is by no means a natural brand--

but it doesn't irritate, and it looks great.

I use Elizabeth Arden two-brush mascara. Clinique also has one that doesn't bother me, but I don't care for the brush applicator or the way the formula goes on.

I don't use this brand, but is a large company that uses all natural organic ingredients. The company is Aveda. All their make-up is natural and it may not irritate your skin. Give it a try!
