I'll scratch your back if you'll scratch my Tinea Versicolor

My back has had a history if itching like crazy, but there's no indication on the skin of irritation or rash. So for about 2 years, I've had an unknown itch. I thought it had something to do with the fact that I accidentally slept in spot where I'd spilled lysol a while back.. for a few months, but it's been a year since that, and it's only downgraded to bearable.

Now I have darkish patches appearing on my stomach and even a bit on my shoulders and one under my armpit. You can see a photo here:

Looks a little like Tinea Versicolor, so I've been using Lotramin AF for a few days. Can't tell if it has helped (but it does ease the itching). My back doesn't seem to have these blotches, although there's one big dark one in my lower back, near where the sun fears to shine. But that doesn't really itch. Anyone know what's up, or is this something I'm going to have to take to a quack?

I don't think it's Tinea...but wait for Dr. Stoll's opinion.

I had TV and they are round circles that are a different texture than the rest of your skin. Depending on the situation, they can either be more reddish (like when you just get out of the shower) or whiter (like if you have a tan). Plus, mine never itched.

I'll be curious to see what diagnosis you get...and I hope it stops itching!

Hi, I've.

I agree with Labrat. This is NOT TV. It looks more like neurodermatitis to me. I would need to see a full back picture for distribution of the rash to have a better idea. I would also need it to be in good enough detail to be able to see the distribution.

You might look up neurodermatitis in a good, color, dermatology atlas. to see if you might agree.

Here are the photos you requested:

Recent changes that time up with the stomach discoloration/itchiness time up with starting to work out, taking whey protein and high calorie shake, eating a lot more than usual (probably adds up to 2,500 - 3000 calories now: I'm 5'11, 130lbs, and until recently haven't been eating nearly enough - 1000 calories on a good day) and sleeping in a sleeping bag on my couch instead of my bed (By accident, I found it to yield a far better night's sleep). My back itches craziest when moisture is involved.

My stomach did not itch at all before this, even when my back did. It really doesn't itch when I use Lotramin AF on it, either.. but my back does. My back has no discernable discoloration on the most itchy part (the middle), but on the lower back there is what I thought was Tinea Versicolor. There was no notable discoloration until recently.

I haven't been sick in a long time; this is the only afflication I've had since my last cold, 5 years ago.

Thanks, I've.

I cannot see the distribution on the back well enough but your comment about there being nothing in the middle of the upper back is also telling me that this is neurodermatitis.

Neurodermatitis is still the most likely diagnosis but you really need to be seen to know. The depigmented spots could be due to TV OR to neurodermatitis.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt

Being in the dark about your health and what you can do to keep or regain has to be one of the most stressful situations a person can experience. Your selfless efforts to provide these answers on your forum do not go unappreciated.

Thank you, Walt.
