Reticular chest veins

Posted by

Dear Dr Walt,

I have bluish veins on my chest and breast area which are ruining my confidence. I am 20 years old and they really bother me. I went to the doctor who told me that they are 'skin veins' and that there's nothing to be done about them. Because I live in England we don't treat such things as readily as you do in America...I have tried herbs, acupuncture and massage for these veins but they won't go away and are ruining my life. I also have skin veins on my legs which don't look too attractive...could you give me any advice for my chest veins at least? I would be so grateful for any advice you could give me. Please reply via email if you have the time...many thanks, Clare

also, dr. stoll, have you heard of these skin veins getting more obvious, wider, that snake-like appearance ect. on legs--even ones getting raised and little bumps along some veins on back of left thigh. What could be causing this to happen ? Can skin getting thinner cause all this? Never saw this much ac tion on legs of others!??????????????????????? What ever is going on here?

Skin getting thinner is the mnost common cause.

Hi, Clare.

Are you thin or very fair?

What is your age?

Dear Dr Walt,

I am of an average weight and am 20 years old...I also have very pale alabaster skin...are skin veins typical on fair-skinned people? I've never seen pale people with as many veins I have at such a young age...
I noticed that you recommend vitamin E...would this help me? Please offer me any advice you can and thank you very much for taking the time to reply.

Thanks, Clair.

You have the perfect complexion for this kind of translucent skin to show up your veins. EVERYONE has these veins but their skin is too opaque for them to show.

100 years ago this was considered a sign of beauty and refinement--even royalty. How times do change. My guess is that if you can live another 100 years your beauty would be back in vogue.

A really good tan would hide them but that has other problems. Repeated tans would age your skin faster than the average tanner--forget about the skin cancers for which you would also be of greater risk than people with more opaque skin.

Hope this helps.

Walt

HI, O.Y.

I would have to see you and feel your legs to have much idea. So would any other physician.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt

Thank you Walt:) You've helped me feel better.
Now where's my time machine...
PS I just want to say I think you are very kind to dedicate so much of your time to these boards being a doctor too:) I surfed half the net for advice and couldn't find any.

Many thanks

Clare
