hello,
I am an african american female 31 that has tinea
versicolor. it showed up in December of last year but
went away aftr a few weeks. It juts came back about 4
weeks ago and after weeks of surfing the net i
discovered that it was tinea versicolor after seeing pics
that looked exactly like what i had.
my question is with my treatment. i washed everthing I
own and change my sheets, I haven't worn the same
thing twice since i started my Nizoral treatment.
It seems that more spots are forming. When i stsrted
the nizoral It was a few spots on my chest. Now a week
later there are spots on my shoulders chest and arms.
They are darker and scaley. i have been putting the
nizoral on every night and rubbing it in and washing it
off in the morning. i also use loofa gloves in the
shower.
Is the treat ment catching spots that wold have formed
anyway? Also my skin seems to be getting thicker and
rougher, is this alos part of the treatment?
Thank you,
dee

Hi, Dee.
Remember that your race will make ANY tinge of the fungus be a lot more obvious. It can be a couple of years after the fungus is gone before the melanocytes begin to make pigment again. Read up on this condition in any dermatology text book so you will know the facts.
There is little way, unless you are inordinately lucky, to tell if you are making progress in less than a couple of months of treatment. STATISTICALLY, you have a good chance of curing the fungus in 4+ weeks of doing what you are doing but there is no real way for you to be CERTAIN of a cure for years.
In the meantime "buffing" off dead skin with every bath is your best chance of preventing a recurrance.
Let us know how you do.
Hope this helps.
Walt
