Dr. Stoll, I have searched the site and can't find anything. First of all I must say you're site is the best. I can't tell you how useful it has been to me since I first discovered it looking up information on Tinea Versicolor. Which, for now, is gone. Thank you. At the moment I have a rash in my groin area. I've had this for a while now. When it is not irritated it simply looks like a slight discoloration of the skin and does not itch. However, when it becomes irritated (after exercise for example) it becomes dark red with a sort of itchy irritation. I assumed this was jock itch. However I have been using Tinactin for jock itch for about a month now and it actually seems to be getting worse.
Since I have had recurring bouts of Tinea Versicolor, I believe I am very susceptible to fungi; I treated that w/ Selsun and Tea Tree Oil, will that work for this rash?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
John

Hi, John.
The thing you are probably mising in your treatment of this is what caused it in the first place: the superficial dead skin in a moist, dark place. The reason for terrycloth is to buff off that dead skin each time you bathe. The secondary reason would be your immunity and you seem to have a genetic susceptibility to this kind of problem. All that means is that you have to be more careful than the average to remove the dead skin.
For now, you also have to treat the already established fungus and some are sensitive to some preparations and not to others. From what you have said, this is likely candida and that would not be resolved by Tinactin which is for other fungi. Nystatin topical, micatin, and the like are for candida. Remember, you have to keep up the topical until the skin has been normal for at least a week after the skin is normal (usually 4-6 weeks}.
Let us know how you do.

I seem to get the same thing I found Tea Tree oil helps and I can get rid of it but then about three months later I get it back. Is their any thing I can do to boost my immune system to stop the reoccuring? Thanks

Hi, Enmma.
The only thing I know of to "boost the immune system" is a wellness program. See the homepage and arhives. In the meantime being sure to buff off all the dead skin (after (after every day's bath), that this stuff gets started on, is the best preventive. The other thing is that one must continue treating any skin fungus until at least a week after the skin sems to be perfectly normal.

Hi, Emma.
Read Dr Selye's classic "The Stress of LIfe" and Dr Benson's first book "The Relaxation Response".
Then, if you need any more information, write again.
