I went to the doctor because I had a pinkish/brownish spot on my torso (right side, right around bra line). The spot was irregular ring shaped, with a clearer center, slightly resembling ringworm. The spot was scaling slightly, but not necessarily itchy. My doctor prescribed an anti-fungal cream and a cortisone cream, both of which I have used for a week, but no improvement. Instead, I am noticing the appearance of SEVERAL reddish/pink spots across my front and back torso.
Please help, as I am afraid this is going to spread and become incurable!

Hi, Ellen.
This is either tinea versicolor OR pitiriasis rosea (viral problem that will disappear in 6 weeks [from the time you noticed it] on it's own OR in 42 days if you have lots of expensive treatment).
Go to your library and have the reference librarian get you out a color dermatology atlas. You will be able to not only find your condition but a short explanation about it. THEN, if you want to know more, you will have the diagnosis in hand and can look it up in the dermatology text.
IF it is the former, remember that you must treat skin fungi for at least 4 weeks.
Let us know how you do.
Walt
