Hi Dr. Stoll
I finally had that mole removed in the vagnial area. The report came back as having moderately atypical cells. Now I have 2 more in the area but the Dr. didn't have time to cut those. He didn't think it was anything to worry about. I'm
having a biopsy done in 2 weeks on them.
My real question is, can you get moles on your gums? I've read you can get them on your eyeball and other weird places.
I've had this blue-gray spot on my gums for years, quite possibly 5 years. I never thought it could be a mole till now. I've had teeth problems in that area for years & only last year my dentist put in a bridge. It's gotten larger over the years. Previous dentist's have told me it's nothing, but in lieu of the fact that this other mole was pre-cancerous I'm quite concerened.
Please what are your thoughts? I'm also having dicomfort in that area around the gum line and jaw. I attributed that to this bridge and the food that get's trapped and the flossing that has to be done.
I am very worried about this as I've had it for so long, it could be a "bad" mole and left unattended could change radically over these years.
Please any help I would appreciate.

Hi, Andrea.
I think you already know that moles in the genital area have a much higher incidence of malignant transformation than anywhere else.
If there are any mercury fillings in the area of your gum discoloration, THAT is the most likely cause of what you seeing than a mole. If not, I would get it biopsied since the gums are about the second most susceptible place for malignant transformation. Only your ophthalmologist can tell you if you develop one on the retina. Be sure to tell him of your history so he will look more carefully with his "slit lamp".
Let us know what you learn. If you keep getting these, we should be discussing your immunity.

Andrea, I have a blue stain on the gumline around where a crown was placed. Asked the dentist what it was and he said to think of it as carbon paper. (whatever that means)
It is probably from your bridge.

Sally,
I've got something similar on my gumline around where my fillings are. I've got crowns, however, do not have that around them.

This is becoming even more puzzling. I am going to try to find out. If I do, I will post it.

Thanks Dr. Stoll
It could be the mercury. Long story short, I had a tooth right in that area that was covered in silver back in '86. The coloring of the gums was around '96 or so. I finally (insurance refusal to cover the crown) had a dentist get this tooth crowned, that was in '98.
Just to be sure when I go to my dermatologist on Monday I'll ask, and I'm having a teeth cleaning on Tuesday so the dentist is also going to take a look.
Thanks

Thanks, Andrea.
Let us know what you learn. A mercury "tattoo" is common in these kind of circumstances and there is no way to remove it.
