Daughter's rash

My daughter has had a rash on her upper arms for quite some time. The rash looks like little raised bumps. Almost like pimples. It doesn't get worse at any particular time. Just stays the same. Her ped. said she should use moisturizing lotion on it. Didn't make much sense to me, but what's the harm. She tried it for several months with no results of course. I'm thinking I should take her to a dermatologist. Has any one out there had something along this line? And what did you do about it?

Sincerely, Wendyl

Hi, Wendy - How old is your daughter? My granddaughter had rashes (mostly on her face) since she was a few months old.
They went away, and she rarely gets a rash -but always gets one when she visits me. I have a dog, but when we visited my son in New Jersey, her rash got better and my dog was with me. They live in Seattle, and the minute they got back there, her rash disappeared. Her rashes always have itched.
Do your daughter's? My daughter tried everything but nothing helped much (Benedryl, corisone cream, etc.).
If she is older, you could take her to an allergist for testing if it is bothersome. Otherwise, if you can't think of anything different she has been in contact with (including different foods), she may outgrow it. Raisa

Hi, WendyL.

If the "rash" is above her elbows and on the back of her upper arm only, I can tell you what it is.

Walt

Thanks, Wendy.

Now how would I know that?

This "hyperkeratosis" is due to not buffing the skin in that area during drying after each bath. That is one of the places most commonly missed. Washcloths and towels are terrycloth so the roughness will not only dry the water off the skin but so that the dead skin will also be gently removed each day.

Also, essential oils and enough vitamin C will help this. However, obviously, the ideal thing is to get rid of the cause.

Let us know how she does.

Walt
