Irritation/rash/nair/tinea

This is horrible and probably the worst thing I have ever done in my life.

I have been treating my arms... the inside elbow/crook for tinea versicolor for months. Loprox and Desonide. They were looking near perfect.

Just yesterday, for the first time in my life, I used nair to remove all the hair on my arms. I totally regret it because where my tinea is/was it has caused it to open up, bleed, swell, rash, HURT! I slept with AD ointment on it, called the hospital this morning to talk to a nurse who said I should use 1% Hydrocortisone lotion.... have it on right now.

What should I do next? Should I go in asap to see my dermatologist? Have I done even more damage to my tinea? The area is soooo red, and painful. I am so afraid that I have made things worse forever!

Thank you for any help.

Hi, Dana.

Any threat to the skin opens it up to react to ANYTHING for at least months after the threat. Since many people react to Nair your situation was a real set-up for what happened.

1% Hydrocortisone cream, over the counter at Walmart, is your best bet right now. Use it at least 4 times a day till the allergic reaction is gone.

Let us know how you do.

Walt

I was stupid enough to use veet,a cream hair removal cream on my pubic hair and have created a dermatitis there.
It has been four months! I have a strep A infection there which I believe occurred on the day of hair removal. Conventional Doctors prescribe antibiotics and the same cream you have been prescribed. I am attempting to treat it with homoeopathy with not much success so far. I am also treating the outer skin with a mixture of excellent quality manuka honey and cider vinegar 2 tablespoons of each in a bowl of warm as you can take it water. Soak for a half an hour approximately and dab dry, then apply coal tar ointment (or I used Aloe Vera Gel and Tea Tree Oil antiseptic cream). This worked for a recurring dermatitis on my hands which would itch like thrush. It builds the skin up and lasts for quite a long time. I may have to use the hydrocortisone cream but I will give this a go first.
You use this treatment daily until you notice a result. It was like a miracle for my hands, now I use barrier cream or gloves and its like having new skin on your hands!
Good luck. P>S> We live and we learn, thats what we are here for...

Hi, Sorry.

This sounds like an allergic response to your having pushed your skin's resistance over the edge by the hair remover cream you used. NOW, you are reacting to laundry detergents, the actual fiber makeup of your underclothes, etc.

This is a sign of MCS. See the archives about housewive's dermatitis. I think you have this in your pubic area and it will spread to your hands and then...

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
