A tooth thing -

Hi - this is a tooth thing, and I don't think anything pressing - but maybe!
Every now and then, on the upper left side back area (molars) if I bite down - it could be a soft food, like rice/beans even - I sort of have a nerve thing shoot up...but there doesn't appear to be a cavity or worse (abcess) due to the fact that I can eat 90% of the time there and I'm fine - also, no sensitivity to hot/cold....yadda yadda.
BUT (isn't it always this way) I AM a grinder, and have TMJ - also, when my sinus' act up, it seems to effect my teeth/jaw as a symptom (not face) and there are times where either my grinding, clenching or sinus issues make my teeth just ache/sensitive.
OR all of this is really symptoms of something deeper in my root?
I would go to a dentist, but honestly, I even find they want to drill, poke and prod - and I know too many people who had fine teeth go for a cleaning, only to end up with an abcess. I'd rather get the boards opinions first! Also - is there someone holistic that would address this?
Sorry I'm so wordy!
Michele

Hi michele,

A dentist can tell from an X-ray if there is an abscess. You can ask him to show you. It looks like a slightly darkened round spot just outside the base of the tooth's root.

You can have one and not feel it, until one day suddenly it flares up and causes a toothache.

Sounds like a lot of your difficulty -- grinding, TMJ, sinus, and probably the tooth thing -- stems from bracing. Have you started your SR practice yet? See the glossary for info about bracing and SR. Read also the article about Skilled Relaxation.

Choose your dentist carefully. There are holistic dentists, you will probably have to look around.

I've never heard of getting teeth cleaned causing an abscess. The hygienist doubtlessly just found what was there all along. You can tell if there is one by looking at an x-ray.

Best wishes,
Happygal (former dental assistant, now Certified Massage Therapist)

Hi Happygal!

Bracing! I too have caught myself clicking my teeth together in the middle of the night, as I am dozing off. Of course I am doing it unconsciously. I only do it a couple of times that I have heard in any one night and it wakes me up when I am half way between falling asleep and being awake, but I kinda wonder if I am also grinding them together as well and not realizing it, as I have two dark spots from the dental xrays on both back molars on opposite sides of my jaw at the very back.
I am hoping with my continued practise of meditation that this stops soon or I wont have any teeth left. lol.

I have the same thing happening. Cannot see anything wrong except for a line accross the tooth that almost makes it look like the tooth is cracked in two (similar to a crack in a cup that does not fall apart). No pain 99% of the time. Will be seeing a dent shortly.

Hi there Michele,
I had exactly the same thing that you are referring to, including sinus pain etc. I was afraid that I would need to have my tooth crowned to avoid what might have been an impending crack in the tooth. Anyway, I taklked to the dentist about it, and yes, he thought that it might be a good idea to have it crowned.

I said that I would check out with a physio, that specialised in TMJ and neck problems, whether my problems with my teeth might stem from TMJ. The physio agreed that it might just be the problem and best to work with her for a bit to see if it would go away. Well it worked!!!! My tooth is fine, and my sinus problem diminished remarkably.

The Physio used a technique called Rocobado. Find someone with this knowl;edge. Good Luck.
problem has cleared up as well
