Nerve passages through the temperomandibular joint area

Posted by Jeremy Marshall on October 18, 1998 at 23:10:17:

Hello,

I am doing a research paper on the affects of a simple orthodontic device that splits the palate to release pressure on nerves in the above mentioned area. I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and am very interested in the affects the device may have on relieving my symptoms. Have you heard anything regarding this device and the treatment of my condition with it? I was also wondering if you know of any links to good web pages regarding the mapping of nerves in that area. Even if you have no information for me about this treatment I would still appreciate a response. Thanks for your time.

Sincerely,
Jeremy Marshall

Dear Jeremy,

What you REALLY need to understand is WHY the muscle tension is in the masseter muscles that causes this. More anatomy will do little ro resolve this.

If you want to understand more about how this effects your entire physiology (especially stress management reserves) read anything about Cranial Osteopathy. You could call the Cranial Academy for down to earth information about this (317) 594-0411. Let us know what you learn.

In the meantime, the only thing yet found that will resolve this problem permanently is the regular practice of skilled relaxation at least twice a day for 20 minutes. Within 6-12 months, the problem will be gone (both the TMJ AND the fibromyalgia).

The nerves in the area of the TMJ have nothing (yet known) to do with how this effects everything else in your body).

The same thing that is causing your fibromyalgia is also causing your TMJ. They DO aggravate each other but do not "cause" each other. Read just the note on the FAQ page about Fibromyositis.

If you have more questions let me know right here on this BB.

Walt
