TMJ cause for Chronic Sinus, or vis versa..

Posted by Sally [338.701] on December 03, 2003 at 19:23:26:

I had no prior history of a single sinus infection until 18 months ago when I had my first infection that was diagnosed by CT scan as a chronic condition, which has not entirely gone away with anit biotics and steroids.

I have been noticing that my jaw near my ear hurts a lot, and asked the dentist if this could be TMJ. He said it could be my sinus infection. I did not consider that one could affect the other.

Will treating TMJ clear the sinus, or will the jaw feel better when the sinus infection is cleared.

Hi,
Wow I had almost the same situation a few months ago but already knew I had a TMJ/bruxism problem. My ENT said it was not TMJ and it was just a sinus infection...but I doubted him from the get go and turns out he was wrong. I took all the antibiotics and everything but my jaw still had pain and felt strained/tight. I had like a feeling like my ears were clogged too and everything it it just came out of the blue. Anyway since then I have found that working on my TMJ has TOTALLY improved my sinus problem (I had an ear infection and the antibiotics supposedly worked for that but I still had the other problems). I got an NTI device to wear at night (better than a mouth guard) and have been taking an herbal supplement (www.serenitol.com) and have been meditating like Dr. Stoll says so that hopefully I won't have this problem again. Good luck

Thank you Jim. Yes, my right ear is stuffy too, the same side that the jaw hurts. What kind of meditation is it that Dr. Stoll tells you to do? I can not find this in the archives.

I have just had an awful problem with:

TMJ OR .. WHATEVER.. no one could figure it out..

However.

I had 2 root canals done in front
all kinds of stress with this as my bridge was not properly replaced.. so it came off.. within 2 hours..

I am still being worked on.. for a permanent bridge.. with 3 crowns..

during all of this my doctor had put me on Altace a BP DRUG..
wELL, I FOUND AT night with it, I could not breathe
and these feelings in the ears, terrible pain in the jaw.
so.. I stopped the altace. had only beenon it since the dental work.. one day.. and it sort of let up..
and now.. it is almost gone.. this problem..
I have spoken with some other people who tell me they have had terrible pain (JOint) from Altace.. the mucous was bad..

so .. I believe it was a combination.. I have papers for TMJ..
but you wouldnt believe the application to get help.
a years wait list..
I am doing exercises.. and keeping real cool of late.
no .. negativity..

but my goodness.. that ear.. used to howl.. and that bone
in the face..

best to all with this.

ps .. I would mention
that a sinus x ray was taken.. NOTHING showed
and .. 4 dentists examined me..
and they could find nothing..

the Doctor .. said it was a dental problem.

but the drug Altace was nt good for me.
coughing.. at night even still it is not totally gone..

Hi Sally,
Yes there is stuff about it in the archives, it's called SR. SR is anything that gets your moind to the alpha stage (deep relaxation). I use meditation but you could do other things like autogenics or whatever. I bought a Brain sync cd and use that. All you do it relax and focus your mind on one thing for 20 minutes, twice a day, and not soon after eating and not before bedtime. It's tough to do but it seems like many people on here have had awesome results. I am on about month 2 so I will wait until month 6 to see if it is really helping my TMJ.
