I am at the end of my rope. Constant pain and if you knew how much dental work I have done to resolve my 'teeth problems' you would be appalled (root canals, bit adjustment etc.). Now I still have pain, only worse, and I have a creeping suspicion that my problem is related to my left TMJ.
I have the classic symptoms (jaw popping, unable to close mouth after dental procedures and severe pain in front of my ear) but also have the following symptoms which I was wondering if you could indicate could be related:
- intolerable senstivity to hot/cold foods in my teeth and
gums on the right side (no visible dental reason can be found - although my dentist has implied that it must be due to gum recession caused by my lack of hygeine - strange since I brush like 5 times per day with electric toothbrush, floss twice per day, rinse with fluoride and don't eat sugar between meals ???? - what does a hygenic person do?????????)
- experience regular daily series of weird tingling, sharp pains (rather like jolts of electricity) in the area of my right upper teeth and jaw (feels like it is in between teeth or up into the gums)
- fairly regular aching in the right side of face, including jaw, gums, teeth, forehead etc.
- during these times of achiness for some reason when I swallow or drink through a straw I get these sharp, electrical type pains in my upper and sometimes lower jaw
(which strangely go away immediately or greatly diminish if I press on the point in front of my right ear)- would this be the case if my problem was a tooth?
- buzzing in my left ear when I turn my head to the left (have had this for like 15 years)
Also,
- why would TMJ problems cause tooth sensitivity?
- I chew gum as per my dentist's advice (after all - my
'teeth' are so poor I need to keep them clean) - should
I stop doing this?
Any advice would be great.
Thanks....

Hey Janice,
While I don't know intimately about what you're going through, and I leave it up to Walt to give you The Official Opinion, here's one more:
Read "The Mindbody Prescription" by Dr. John Sarno.
Your library will have it. It's not a long book, but it involves a comprehensive idea, and if you're really never without pain (THAT much I can relate to), what have you got to lose.
I think you'll be surprised at what you find...
Best wishes,
Dianne

Do you feel "stressed out"?
Do you drink a lot of coffee?
Do you grind your teeth?
After you check the archives (use the search) you will see that you will be advised to practice SR (see glossary).
Of course if your problem has been going on for many years, there may be permanant bone damage.
I wish you luck.

Janice,
When did all of your pain start? I too have been going through a similar experience that started with a crown. The dentist who put it on was very rough. I went back to my regular dentist who has tried everything he can think of to help me including a root canal and I'm still in pain. I don't have it as bad as what you describe, but I feel that eventually it will become that bad. I have experienced tingling up my face too.

Hi, Janice.
Get Rolfed! See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms and spend a lot of time on the archives about TMJ. Then, let me know your experience. By the way, you need a more knowledgable dentist.
