Hello,
I'm a 32 yr. old male. I have had jaw aches, jaw locking, headaches, neckaches and even woke up with blood in my nose. I,ve had jaw problems for many many years and it has continued to progress. It is faint in my memory but it seems the trouble started after getting struck in the jaw playing ball tag , when I was young (12 to 14 yrs.), Sence then I have been told my lower jaw is under developed, my joints are sloppy and scared and my back teeth have been worn down severly. About 2 yrs. ago and a couple thousand dollars, I found a doctor who informed me that I must be grinding my teeth at night and recomended a mouth piece while sleeping. I'm glad to say a whole new life was born, the mouth piece has worked wonders. I still have some problems from time to time,I believe it may have to do with the amount of tension I may be under at the time.
After saying all the above, I have recently been told that three of my wisdom teeth that have been in for around 6 yrs., are taking up to much room and not allowing my jaw to open and close correctly. I can't understand how this is possible with the way the joints, bones and teeth are constructed on the skull. If you can help me to understand, it would be greatly appreciated.
By the way the Everlast Ever-Gaurd Mouth Piece that you heat in water and then mold to your teeth is excellent.
Thanks
Chris

Hi,
You'll find some good info in the TMJ archives, even though your jaw problems started with an injury. I think you'd benefit from a good massage series and some chiropractic treatment (find a chiropracter who can do kinesiology). Also learn about bracing (a problem most of us have, and apparently is an issue for you since you are a teeth grinder) and Rolfing (something that may help you even more than massage). If I were you I'd get some more opinions about your wisdom teeth because sometimes the process of extraction can damage the jaw even more or cause TMJ in a person whose never had it before. Most importantly, learn about SR and start working on finding the right SR method that works for you, practice 20 minutes twice a day to release stored stress effect from the hypothalamus. All info is here on this site, but you may want to begin with this:

Hi, Chris.
Listen to kmd (Thanks, kmd, I could not have ssid it better.)
You wil find that your "miracle cure" of the mouth guard will not be a permanent solution. You must understand this problem at a deeper level and deal with the bracing. This is not to day that the mouth guard is not a good idea temporarily but that you MUST take the time while you HAVE relief to LEARN!
