TMJ

Posted by Cassie on October 01, 2001 at 19:48:33:

Dr. Stoll,

I have had my ligament repositioned and now suffer from more symptoms than before. I am trying to move on and have been doing relaxation for 20 minutes in a.m. and p.m. for the last two months. Although there is some improvement, it is sometimes disheartening. Any other suggestions that might improve my condition?

Was that a surgical procedure? I also have TMJ. I was wondering how your ligament got in a bad position in the first place. Maybe that's what I have. What are your symptoms?
Thanks
Rona

in the Sept. 2001 issue of Vegetarian Times magazine (pp. 20-24). This is not the current issue, since October is out now, but you might be able to find the Sept. issue in your public library. Or, you can probably order a back issue from the publisher. See www.vegetariantimes.com.

The article discusses posture, sleeping, and other things that aggravate it, plus recommendations for supplements, relieving stress, bodywork including myofascial release & trigger point therapy, and describes a couple of exercises/relaxers that might be helpful. It doesn't have a lot of detail, but should give you a few ideas to pursue.

I have a bit of jaw dysfunction & muscle tension. My massage therapist is usually able to release it for me.

Good luck.

Hi, Cassie.

You are suffering from the consequences of not being diagnosed early enough to prevent permanent damage.

If you could just have learned about the SR 10 years ago...

Anyhow, you now have to take your progress from here.

Your SR IS the answer even now. However, you will never be normal although you should be able to become pain free. Be sure you are doing it right or this could still get worse.

Alexander Technique OR Feldenkrais, frequent total body, deep, therapeutic massages OR Rolfing can help you get to where the SR will finally get you.

Let us know how you do.

Walt
