Saliva Stones Part II

Posted by Atlantic on March 08, 1999 at 11:48:32:

Well its Monday morning, and the swelling has gone down from what it was Friday. But its still a little lumpy. The pain when eating now, is very little to none, pain always disappears after I eat breakfast. Before It hurt like a bitch

So is this just residual affect? I used lemons, sour pickle, by the way, the lemons made my lips feel wierd, lasted for some hours to.

Should I make an appointment for Tomorrow to have it double checked?

Thank you, by the way, how do you get these?

Dear Atlantic,

This sounds like a "lull in the storm" to me. Once the stone passes, you cannot help but feel it in your mouth (unless, of course, it does so during a meal--when people only USUALLY notice it). It should just go away when the stone passes---unless an infection has been precipitated by the obstruction which will take a few days to gradually disappear. Antibiotics are not indicated. Once the stone has passed, and proper drainage is accomplished, an infection CANNOT continue.

The most common cause of recurrent stones is habitual clenching of the jaw muscles (TMJ). The next most common is an imbalance of calcium metabolism. Trauma to the ductal opening is the next most common cause (biting your cheek).

Let us know how you do.

Walt
