Hi Dr. Stoll,
I've been SRing for a year, checked it with biofeedback. I'm
now seeing a kinesiologist who today told me that clenching
my jaw is a problem (I don't clench my teeth). It affects
digestion he says, always clenched. I know you agree -
chronic bracing at all.
SR HAS made me calmer, but my symptoms remain. My question
is - do you think his advice to chew/suck on orthodontic
rubberbands will help? I realize it's not a long-term
solution. He says it's to stop the clenching.
I've been SRing for an hour daily for the last month instead
of .5 hr. 2 times a day - I'm doing the Centerpoint program
and that's their thing.
Do you rhink the rubberband thing is a helpful temporary
idea? Or is plain awareness better?
Thank you Doctor Stoll,
Amanda

I also clench(ed) my jaw unknowingly for many, many years. I'm getting better and better at relaxing the muscles by brining my awareness to that area throughout the day. The hardest time for me is while sitting at the computer.
I'll be curious to see what others have to say, but my vote is to increase awareness as opposed to more chewing/sucking. Why not TRULY give your jaw a break?

Is there a way you might know to tell if the jaw is relaxed
or not? I don't think I can tell. However today is the first
day I've tried to be aware so maybe I just need practis

Stress around expression or feeling shut down in this area can definetly have a reason also for this. I have past first hand expierence in this one. At one time i had it so bad that i could barley open my mouth and chew. It was facsinating. I booked myself down at our ranch in Texas and went on a juice fast and got colonic's ever 3rd day and was on the fast for 12 days and was only on vegetable juice and water. Well it was amazing how the jaw opened up when i wasn't chewing and then i did breath sessions; It seemed i had toxins accumulated and that is where they seemed to store the jaw. When it was over the 15 days i was there, the jaw opened up and it never locked up again like that;
I'm more aware now of relaxing in that area though and i found i had to pull my head back towards my shoulders more, reading ect [computor], awareness helps; I had gone to many dentist and they wanted to put all these things in my mouth, and charge me a lot of money;
I also learned that the consciousness of feeling shut down was a wrong perception on my part and i unified with the truth of perfect expression and then i moved into the true part of my nature and that no one was doing anything to me. Sometimes we hook into a thought pattern and it physically stores in our bodies.

Thanks, Amanda.
You are right, once the bracing is gone most people STILL have the habit to break and that is mostly awareness.
Regular massage, Rolfing and Alexander Technique are ways to make that easier.
