Dear Tony,
This is the result of total body chronic bracing with secondary plagiocephaly, tmj & spastic pharyngeal muscles.
The only thing I have ever seen solve this is the regular practice of skilled relaxation for 6-12 months. This has been discussed on this 'site many times.
In the meantime, you could get very significant relief by getting Rolfed. See the archives as to how to find a good one in your area and learn more about it.
As you get well, please share your experiences with the BB participants. This is more common than you might think!

Dr. Stoll
I just realized that I have no idea what secondary plagiocephaly or spastic pharyngeal are. Could you give me a brief definition? I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Dear Tony,
I thought you might not understand my jargon but gave it anyhow since, eventually, you are going to have to make it your own.
Everything I mentioned is caused by the total-body bracing caused by the intolerable stress-effect storage in your hypothalamus. These are just localized bracing from that cause. Your pharyngeal muscles are what you use to speak & swallow. They have been at their limits for years & finally are saying to you: "I ain't going to take it any more!"
You have 22 bones in your head that are supposed to expand & contract about 16 times a minute pumping the cerebrospinal fluid to your brain. This is what is called the "primary respiratory mechanism". Read anything about Cranial Osteopathy. IF those movements are restricted (most commonly by muscle tension) many of the symptoms you have are triggered (plagiocephaly). If you look that word up in the dictionary, it will be called "crooked head". This is not very accurate but, so far, is the best word they have.
TMJ locks the movement of the skull bones into place just like a padlock.

Thanks again Dr. Stoll. You continually amaze me at how quickly you get back to and give help to everyone on this board. You are a Godsend.

I have been suffering for more than one year several
disorders including dizziness, neck stiffening, head pain,
eye and ear discomfort, etc. During this period I have
visited otorhinolaryngologists, traumatologists,
neurologists, cardiologists and masseurs without success.
I have also tried to use anatomical pillows, massage
apparatus, etc, with no results.
Could you provide me some help?.

Dear Daniel,
I am sure that Doc Dave will suggest that you missed Chiropractic & I cannot argue with the fact that a knowledgable Chiropractor might well resolve this all by him/herself.
I would suggest that this is a result of "total body bracing" and that, so far, NOTHING you have tried has done anything about that.
There are several approaches that probably would give you some temporary relief & should be considered since the SOLUTION is going to take you 6-12 months of learning & practicing skilled relaxation. They are: Rolfing, Cranial Osteopathy, avoiding your TMJ (other than dental treatment) & reading a book that was written about you: Dr Pelletier's classic, "Mind as Healer, Mind as Slayer".
If you still have questions, write again.

Dear Friend,
I have also had the dizziness and TMJ and stiff neck
etc. I can not even begin to tell you how much better
I felt after having cranial sacral therapy from an
Osteopath. Dr. Stoll recommends you see a D.O. that
is qualified and has had training from the Cranial
Academy and I agree.
All kinds of improvements to my whole body have occured
after several sessions. I am extremely grateful for all
the information I have learned here. I am healing! Finally.
I still have a long way to go but every new action I take
that I learn from here has helped.
Good luck to you,
peace and love,
pamela

Thanks, Pam, for your testimonial.
The problem is not that these things don't work but that it is hard to get people to try them.
The AMA continues to do its best to obfuscate the facts so people will have trouble believing that there is another way.
Congratulations on your courage to step outside your "cosmic egg".

Wesley Shankland DDS was at our community today and is a
terrific speaker. Besides covering TMJ, his specialty,
he is a strong advocate of glucosamine and chondroitin
sulfate. He has a report on his research on his website. There is a link to his web page in his article
on mercury on the Health Freedom Issues page for this
web site. He also attributes his energy and low sleep
requirement to ginseng--much better than coffee to keep
you awake. He has written a book, THE MANY FACES OF TMJ.
The symptoms of TMJ are more diverse than you would think.
He is not only a dentist but a PhD and teaches anatomy at OSU medical school. Martha
