toenail fungus

I got rid of my toenail fungus by using Lamisil cream and the thumb cut off of a rubber glove. I applied it in the morning and evening after washing my feet. Use alot of cream and pull the rubber finger over the toe. Wear it 24/7. Use a fresh rubber thumb each time. Bandages are uncomfortable. After awhile it will start to crumble and fall apart. I used and old toothbrush after soaking it twice a day abd scrubbed off the old eccess that was slowly crumbling. After a couple of months it was gone. I now have a nice toenail that doesn't look like a witch's nail. I am glad to share my brainstorm with others and hope it works for them. I can wear sandals after a year since then and no longer be ashamed. Linda

Hi Linda,

Is the Lamisil cream a prescription drug or can you get it over the counter?

What did you soak the toothbrush in?

MC

Did you try the vinegar treatment? I was just told I have toenail fungus, and prescribed lamisil. I'd like to try an alternative measure first, after reading about the possible side effects of lamisil.

The lamisil I am getting is a topical cream. My doctor would not give me the drugs to take because he said they damage the liver.

I have been using vinegar for over a year. I think it works up to a point but I don't think it's strong enough because my nails have all reinfected during this treatment. I think I might try doing the vinegar treatment 3 times a day instead of 2.

Theresa. The lamisil cream had no side effects on me. I think the side effects are from the pills. I did not have to try vinegar because it is gone and I continue to put it on once a week without the rubber thumb cut off of a glove. I have a healthy clear toenail. It took almost a year for it to grow from the base to the tip. There was no pain or open sores when the toenail started to crumble after a couple of weeks when I did this. My doctor told me the the lamisil cream would work if there was a way to get it to stay on and penetrate over time. I tried bandages gauze etc. and all were uncomfortable. I got the idea about cutting off the thumb part of the rubber glove at work. I was taking care a dialysis patient in is home and I had to constantly wash my hands. He could no be exposed to germs because we had to connect and disconnect him from his machine and had a permanent tube in his pelvic area. If he got one germ in the tube he could get peritonitis. I had a bad cut on my finger and the bandages keep coming off when I washed my hands or took off all of the gloves I had to use. So I cut off the finger on one and put it on and used waterproof tape to hold it on. The next day it was almost healed. Then I decided to try it on my toe. There are several sizes of gloves to try to get to fit right. (I have boxes of gloves with the thumbs missing!) Don't get it on to tight. And wear socks to keep it on. Wash your feet, dry good apply alot of Lamisil and a fresh thumb twice a day.It was not uncomfortable and just felt a little funny. But it was worth it. I also heard that Vicks vapor rub works. Good luck in whatever method you try.

MC Lamisil can be bought over the counter. Keep the old toothbrush in a mason jar with water and a couple tablespoons of bleach and change it every day to keep it sterile or soak it in alcohol(not the drinking kind!)Scrub the nail hard using a soft brush twice a day. Also if you file it every day to get off as much nail sohe lamisican keep penetrating that helps too. Watch you don't irritate the cuticle. The lamil pills have alot of side effects but the cream has rare side effects my doctor said. I continue to still put a litle on my toenail so it won't come back. I have a nice clear normal toe. It will take time and keep working at it but it will be worth it. I don't know how severe yours is. Mine was only half way down the toenail and on the right side. It took about 6 months before the nail grew in nice. Keep me posted if you decide to do this. If there is anything I can answer e-mail me KittyMeowPuppyBowWow@webtv.net God Bless Linda Morgan
