I have pincer nails on the toes next to my big toes. I have been told that this is caused by tight fitting and/or pointed toe shoes which I did wear years ago. Even though I have not worn this type of shoe for almost 25 years now, the nails have never straigtened out. The nails have made complete circles so that the top corners of the nail meet and the nail sticks up high. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to get these nails straight and flat again. Thanks much!

Probably surgery:

Thanks Surg. I was hoping for something easier since insurance won't cover the costs. I thought I had read someplace on this board that someone with pincer nails used Tea Tree Oil and the nails returned to their normal state.
I was kind of skeptical, but maybe it worked for them.

Hi, Jane.
I wish all the tight shoes were lined up against the wall and shot :o).
These cause permanent changes in the bones and nail root areas and most never change even though the habit be stopped for the rest of one's life.
You might try the tea tree oil and the EFAs on the home page. Let us know how you are doing in about a year. If you see some changes by then, keeping it up for about 5 years may actually resolve this.

But alas.......now I'll suffer.
