Toenail fungus

Posted by Reggie on September 17, 2002 at 07:34:40:

I have been agressively going after a 30 year case of toenail fungus. I use Itracozanole topically twice a day, frequent applications of tea tree oil, distilled vinegar appliation three or 4 times a day (am, pm, mid day, and after swimming, some vicks in between, and about three times a week I soak my feet for an hour in a combination of distilled vinegar and the acid product water of my alkaline ionizer. I work at home so I can almost always be barefoot. At this point my nails have lost their thickness and look better but I have cut them all down almost to the base as they had crumbled away from this treatment. As they are growing back they do not seem to attach to the nailbed and the nailbed(s), while a whole lot smoother than they were before, are still a bit rough. I'm sure I am probably over-doing this but I am more interested in getting rid of this long-term problem than I am in being scienctific. Will the nail reattach to the nail bed or do I need do do something (or stop doing something) to make this happen?

Thank you.

Hi, Reggie.

The only thing I am sure of is the vinegar.

Remember that 4% vinegar is 96% water. By using it more than twice a day you are inhibiting the therapeutic success. Soaking for an hour is even more detrimental.

This is definitely one place where "more is not better".
