For anyone thinking of using Lamisil or Sporanox

Posted by John W on October 30, 2002 at 15:43:37:

I have had striations and a yellowing of my toenails for about seven years now, I developed this while I was deployed with the navy. I never put much thought into it and assumed that it was just an effect of athlete's foot that I could never seem to get rid of. Last week a couple of my nails completely seperated from my toes so I made an appointment to see a podiatrist.

Being retired navy, I had to see a general physician before a consult could be made for me to see a podiatrist. The doctor examining me didn't feel that I needed to see a podiatrist for my problem and said he would write up a perscription for Lamisil for me.

I have been to this site before while doing some research for my GERD, (Walt, yes, I will be starting the GRJ treatment as soon as I can afford a juicer) so I decided to see if this site had any info about toenail fungus. I imediately noticed that people did not like the drug that I was just perscribed so I decided to do a little more research about it and happened upon the link below.

I read on hear from several people that they were considering taking the Lamisil because they didn't like the slow results from Vinegar. I myself would have been one of those people, having lived with this eyesore for so long, but after reading the horendous statistics about this drug, I'm going to show my doctor a printout of this when he calls me in next week to pick up the perscription, and then go with the tried and true (if very slow) method of using vinegar.

Thank you Walt and everyone else that has contributed to this subject.

PS, if anyone has had adverse reactions to these drugs, you should give the FDA's Medwatch program a call. FDA encourages healthcare professionals and patients to report adverse events associated with the use of Sporanox® and Lamisil® to FDA's MEDWATCH Program. Reports may be submitted to MEDWATCH by phone at 1-800-FDA-1088, by fax at 1-800-FDA-1078, by mail at MEDWATCH, HF-2, FDA, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787, or on the MEDWATCH web site at www.fda.gov/medwatch.

Take it from someone who has used all three methods, that the Lamisil and Sporonox take the same amount of time as the vinegar. If you only take Lamisil for three months - it doesn't work for a full blown case of nail fungus. Then they will prescribe another three months and then another three months. My doctor did it twice, no questions asked, no blood tests; thank God I didn't take it the second time. I was fed up with not being able to go out in the sun.

Thanks, Take.

Since so many people do not believe ME it really helps to have others see the truth.

Namaste`
