Toe Nail Fungus - Alternative Solution

Hello All,

I found this board a year or two ago and have attempted to use Walt's vinegar therapy for fungus on my toe nails. Unfortunately, I have been one of the unlucky few that has not had success with this treatment.

There are numerous cures and remedies touted on the internet that claim to be able to cure toe nail fungus, but most of them are fairly useless.

I came across this information a few days ago while searching the net and thought I would share it in the hopes that it will help someone else. I'll be trying this myself shortly.

There are two ways to do this treatment, one harder to make then the other. I'm only going to describe the easier method, although you can read up on the other method via the link provided at the bottom of the page.

The reason I am speculating that the vinegar treatment did not work for me was because of incomplete penetrance of the vinegar to the base of my nail. How can you prevent the growth of the fungus if the viengar doesn't make it to the root problem? The solution is to combine something that is easily absorbed through the skin with some sort of anti-fungal. Welcome DMSO and tea tree oil.

DMSO is short for Dimethyl Sulfoxide. It's a natural by-product of the wood industry that has been around since 1953. It was discovered that DMSO penetrated the skin quickly and deeply without damaging it. In addition, it took small molecules through the skin with it. So the question is: Is it safe? In my opinion, absolutely. But find out for yourselves. There are several articles on DMSO and its uses here:

www.dmso.org

Tea tree oil is a natural anti-fungal and provides almost notrisk to humans.

So, if you mix 3 parts of tea tree oil to 1 part DMSO and apply this to the base of your nail 2 times/day, the tea tree oil should theoretically be penetrating all the way through.

Where can you find DMSO? I called a few local health food stores and most of them had a liquid bottle of the stuff for about $10. Tea tree oil can be purchased in almost any health store.

The theory behind this treatment is sound. Now I just have to see if it works!

If you are interested in the other treatment, in which the products are harder to come by (although I think will be more effective), check out this website:

http://home.sprynet.com/~impa/doctors4.htm

It's the 1st treatment he presents.

My apologies if this information has already been posted.

Good luck with your treatments, whatever they may be,

Omar

Why not DMSO and vinegar?

seems like that would be better. Tea tree oil is pretty intense. Just wondering out loud...

I have heard that Vick's Vapo Rub works well, too,
for toenail fungus.

That makes sense to me(DMSO). But the tea tree is too oily. Makes your toes stand out like a "sore thumb" haha. No, seriously it does and ruins your shoes. I too would like to know from Dr Stoll what he thinks of vinegar with the DMSO.

Thanks, Omar.

Theoretically this should work beautifully. I will be interested in whether it works in practice. Please let us know!

Thanks, Carol.

That is what I would try first. However, I have never seen the vinegar fail from not penetrating via the microscopic cracks around the growing nail. Use a high power magnifying glass and you will begin to see what I mean about cracks. An actual scanning microscope would show a LOT more cracks.
