My mother's toenails are extremely thick and difficult to cut with nail clippers. They are also curved, sort of inwards toward the nail bed. Does anyone know what is causing this? Or does she just have unconventional toenails?

HI there - I do believe if they are left long, that makes them curve inward.
Insurance should pay for a foot doctor who can cut the toenails properly.
I was amazed when the nurse used a dremmel on my nails, after they were cut, to smooth them down! Good luck

Hi, Mama's.
I am assuming that you are describing the inward curving from the sides and not the end. If you look at an anotomical picture of the great tonails you will see that this is the preferred normal.
Let us know what you learn.
