I read with great interest the vinegar treatment for toenail fungus, which I was treated for with Spranox about three years ago, only to have it come back after six months of having perfectly normal looking nails. I did have several months of intestinal discomfort, plus the blood pulled for liver exams during the treatment. (I have a hunch that if I had gone on vinegar follow up after the Sporanox, I would not have had any further problem.) Since I do not frequent a health club, my guess is that I picked it up at a shower in a campground on St. Johns. I did not wear flip-flops to shower in as I now read that one should in areas like that. Now to the questions. I have been using a spray bottle morning and night with vinegar. I also concocted a small bottle and brush filled with vinegar, vaposteam concentrate, camphor, peroxide, and antifungal liquid to paint on about an hour after the vinegar spray. In addition, I wear tennis shoes and socks through a good part of the day, and before putting the socks on saturate the toes with vicks vaporub. Is there any reason not to use this varied and agressive method? I am starting to see some white at the base again after about three weeks of this mad scientist method. I am sure another month will determine if it is my imagination or not. The skin irritation from all of this is very minor.

You probably stopped the vinegar treatment too soon. The fungus has to be killed completely and I know Dr Stoll recommends that you carry on with the treatment for some time after the nails have grown normally.
I would carry on with what you are doing for about a year after normal growth is occurring. You may need to apply vinegar for ever. I dont know.
I am having success with a fungal cream. Go to www.fungalcream.com. I tried vinegar for 2 years and it did not eradicate the problem. Use H202 with the vinegar. Also, whenever you can, go without socks and try to wear some sort of sandal. Scrub your nails with vinegar with an old toothbrush frequently.
Good luck.

I understand you did not try vinegar first right? Will I have a fungus in both my finger nails and toe nails. I have been using vinegar night and morning for a year now and I see my fungus leaving a little at at time, I am not embarsed about them anymore. I just squirt the vinegar from a squirt bottle at night just before going to bed and I place my fingers into a bowl of vinegar the same way. It is easier to do my fingers that way than trying to squirt the vinegar on them. I keep the vinegar in my bath room and the bowl of vinegar in my kitchen. I believe you are going to get tired of all this and give up before the fungus is gone. Besides you will have to keep this up even after it is completely gone are you will get it back again. I intend to keep up what I am doing the rest of my life. It isn't much trouble to do and doesn't cost much either. However, you should do what you feel is righ for yourself. I found this site around the time I found out I had this fungus in my fingers.

Do not want to be rude, but no one really read the message. I was cured with the sporanox, not really, the treatment ended too soon, before it was all killed. It came back, and now after a couple of years, I am doing alternative treatment to get rid of it. While I appreciate the response, the respondants are not following the true chain of events. Please re-think.....DR Stoll, It was really a question for you.

I realize a lot of people don't read the post they just write and that is the way they do me. But I read your post and I know exatley what you said, but I just told you the way I was doing it. My fungus is all most gone and I said I used vinegar morning and night for 1 year now and it is so easy that I intend to keep it up so I would never get it back. Because some people are inclined to get it so I don't want to take a chance. Sorry but it seems you didn't read my post but I certainly read yours. I don't believe the person before who answered you letter read your post. Because they couln't have read and answered the way they did.

I started using vinegar 1 year ago, and Dr Stoll says to do it just the way I am doing it. It it easy and works. I don't think he would be against using it even after it is gone. It is cheap and easy to do.

Hi, PC.
I have no experience with a shotgun approach as you are describing. Why not try the vinegar protocol and see what happens?
To prevent recurrance, consider eliminating your susceptibility factors. If you cannot get enough info from the foot fungus archives consider getting a copy of my first book that has a chapter about this.

Yes Connie I did read it. I should have stated that someone did not read it. I did not mean you. Actually the multi approach I am taking is not a lot of trouble. I still do the vinegar shot AM and PM. I like the idea I have behind the vinegar, camphor, vaposteam and peroxide paint-on, as it evaporates very, very slowly. The vapo-rub leaves a physical substance under the socks sort of as in my mind a counter-agent against the sweat. I am staying on this regimin for at least another five or six weeks and will report back in.
