Dear Dr Stoll,
I have read with great interest your description of the vinegar cure for onychomycosis (at askwaltstollmd.com/body_fungus.html).
What is not clear to me is how the liquid can penetrate into the nail matrix if the cuticle adheres tight to the toenail. Is the cuticle to be pushed back before application? And if so, would this not carry the risk of letting the infection straight into the nail matrix? Are there any other risks in the vinegar treatment?

Do not worry about it. It will find it's way to the matrix no matter what you do if you just follow the protocol. No risks except your feet will smell like a tossed salad :o).

It really does work, I don't know why or how. But I used it and all you have to do is stick with it and have patience. Then one day you realize all the gross toe nail has grown off and you have a new healthy toe nail.

I can tell you it works as well. I never thought in a million years my ugly toenail that was 7 years infected with seperation and yellow deformed----just gross!!!!
After 1 year of the vinager protocol it is finally flat pink and BEAUTIFUL!!!!
No I did not push the cticle back the vinager gets in through the tiny little cracks in the cuticle, then it gets into the matrix and the acidity from the vinager does not allow the fungus to grow on that portion of the nail that was made that day.
Remember not to forget to apply 2 times a day every 12 hours or so. GOOD LUCK---it works.
