I'm going into week #3 on my vinegar treatment for toenail
fungus. Please, does anyone have a tip on how to counteract
the smell of vinegar?? My socks reek of an unpleasant odor,
and even my feet after washing still have a faint smell of
the vinegar. Would it be permissable to dust my feet with
a foot powder or Gold Bond powder? I don't want to do
anything that will interfere with the action of the vinegar,
and would appreciate any advice on this matter.

Hi, Lana.
Talk about smelly feet (grin)!
Used properly, I don't think that ANYTHING can get in the way of the vinegar working.
Let us know if you find a particularly effective antidote to the vinegar aroma.

I put drops at the base of my toenails and let it sit about 10 seconds. Then I use a cotton ball and wipe it off. Then I put some more vinegar on the cottonball and swab the whole toenail. Then I wet a tissue with water and wipe the skin around the nail so the skin isn't irritated and doesn't smell, (being very careful not to touch the nail itself with the tissue). Then I do all my other daily routines of getting ready for work or bed while my toenails air dry, and I put my socks on last. That way my socks do not get wet vinegar on them.
For some reason, using vinegar only at the base of the nail still did not do the job for me, working only on the bottom half inch or so, so I started swabbing the entire nail and they are looking much much better. This after a family doctor and a dermatologist said there was nothing they could do, and didn't think it was fungus. I had it for years and years, and the vinegar started working right away.
Speaking of toenails.....

I've been meaning to ask you, Dr. Stoll, and keep forgetting...
I'm the goober who put the drops of vinegar on her toes from a baby bottle instead of a dropper, and as you said, was oversaturating them because the drops are much bigger. Anyhow, my toenails turned white. Well, they are STILL white a few months later! Is there any way to get rid of the discoloration now?
Also, my toenails were so badly infected with the fungus that they lifted right off my toe and are really disfigured. Do you think they will repair themselves or are they stuck this way for life?
Thanks a bunch! :)

Hi, Michele.
Remember, your toenails are dead tissue. They have to be grown off before you will see the new nail changes.
You could go to the surgeon and have what you have removed. Then you could more easily see the new nail growing in.
Hope this answers your concerns.
