my child has recurrent vertigo

My daughter is 11 and has vertigo off and on for several years. She has had her adenoids and tonsils removed due to a severe ear infection that lasted for 3 months. They also corrected the hearing loss of the right ear.However, she continues to have flare ups of vertigo and I do not know ehat else to do. The doctors keeps prescriving meclizine and the z-pak. She has missed a lot of school due to this and since school just started again she has already missed 3 days. She can not walk most of the time and she complains of some hearing loss in the left ear. She is nauseated a lot and can not seem to get over this. These attacks can last anywhere from 3 days to a week or more. I need to find someone that can help her to start to feel better. She also takes zyrtec 10 mg everyday since she was in 1st grade. She has a mild case of asthma which is under control at this time. The only thing the dr. says is that some people get vertigo with head congestion and some get brochitis. Can we find anything to prevent this or is she going to have to suffer with this all of her life. There is no quality of life for her and we are all frustrated over this. Is there some help for my 11 year old with vertigo?

I don't know if this article will be of any help to you, but it mentions that vertigo has been helped by taking digestive enzymes. Perhaps Walt will comment?

Have you tried eliminating common allergens like wheat and milk from her diet?

I noticed you said your daughter has asthma that is under control. Does she also have allergies? Does she use anything like Flonase or any products like that?

I had severe Vertigo (so severe, I ended up in the hospital, twice). I narrowed it down to the use of Flonase for nasal polyps and allergic rhinitis. I was advised to use it to keep the allergy and the pollyps at bay. About 1 week to 1 month after using it consistently, I would develop Vertigo. All the doctors wanted to blame it on sinus infections or a virus in the inner ear. Once I quit the Flonase, the Vertigo has never returned. Of course, I was still left with all my other problems.

In fact, I have had the exact symptoms your daughter has and more. (I had my tonsils and adenoids removed at the age of 3.) You should get her on a wellness program as soon as possible, even if you do or don't find the cause of the Vertigo. The Wellness Lifstyle is what is bringing me to the point of getting rid of the causes of the problems to begin with.

Hi, Sherri.

This poor child is the victim of the simplistic allopathic paradigm which has a monopoly over medical thinking in this country--in my opinion.

The first thing I would do is TOTALLY eliminate dairy from her diet as the first hypersensitivity trial. You should see beginning results, if this is a part of the cause, within a month.

Then, while I was trying this, and learning about C-RS and LGS (see the glossary for any unfamiliar terms) I would see a Cranial Osteopath in consultation (be sure you have copies of all her medical records at home for any consultants to see). See the archives as to how to find one near you.

Just treating the symptoms wil not cut it for her--as you have already learned. The causes must be addressed!

Listen to Donna E., BarbaraN and Susan. Any or all of these remedies can be helpful and are harmless to try.

Let us know what you learn and how she does.

Walt

Thank You Walt, this is what i would say, off all dairy!
Another thing to eliminate-sodium, Caffeine [like in soda's]and all fried foods also;
If you are looking into supplimentaion; here are two good one's for heping; Ginkgo-biloba improves circulation and can improve the brain function by increasing the supply of oxygen to the brain;
Look into Vit. C also;
