When looking for Ester C, sometimes I come across "buffered" or "time release" Vit C. Is this all the same?
Also, what do you think of using regular Vit C for maintenance since its cheap, but use Ester C when large doses are needed to fend off colds, viruses ?

Brain,
Supplements are just what the name means, they are supposed to supplement the food you eat..Too many use supplements as a cure-all and end up taking too many or too much..Eat a whole food diet, keep your lymph system clean and you won't get colds and need large doses that can make you sick..

Thanks Steve. I agree with your sentiment. However, I already have a fairly healthy life style (whole food, exercise, SR) and for those of us born (and raised!) on the unlucky end of the bell curve, sometimes thats not enough.

Hi, Brian.
No, they are not the same.
The Multigenics people are having me try a new formulation for their vitamin C and I already know it is not as good as the ester C. I have a feeling that they are trying to get their price down (it costs more to make the ester C) because the public has not yet learned the advantages of the ester C (after 20 years of trying to educate the public about it) and are just comparing prices.
Personally, I am going to start looking for another manufacturer of the ester C. BECAUSE of the 4 to 1 advantages of ester C, over regular C, the ester C is less expensive than most regular Cs you can buy because you only have to take 1/4th as much.

That's unfortunate what you're saying about Multigenics, especially since the company was started by Dr. Jeffrey Bland, who also founded or at least chaired the Functional Medicine Institute.

3 1/2 years ago I started taking a teaspoon of powdered ascorbic acid (NOW brand from www.iherb.com) in a cup of purple grapejuice at suppertime or in the evening and I have had no colds or any ailments in that period. Bioflavinoids in grapejuice and vitamin C together are beneficial to capillary health. Neither works by itself. Diahrea limits how much to take. If bound up take some extra. Vitamin C Foundation recommends ascorbic acid form.
