Food Supplements (Nutritional vs Therapeutic)

Posts to Ask Dr Stoll BB regarding Food Supplements (Nutritional vs Therapeutic)

There have been a few posts to the Ask Dr Stoll Bulletin Board (BB) regarding
Food Supplements (Nutritional vs Therapeutic). Many of them have been archived here. The archive is roughly
chronological. I hope you find it useful.

Supplement Summary:

There are literally hundreds of micronutrients our bodymind needs for perfect health. A new one is being discovered about every month. We really have no idea how many there will eventually be found.

This means: until we DO know them all it is best to use the foods that Mother Nature has provided and hope that they contain them all. That means eating only organic whole foods. However, there are presently known nutrients that are either deficient in even whole foods (due to depletion of the soil) OR, because of modern stresses in the environment, ones we need a lot more of than we did 100 years ago.

Those are the nutrients that we need to take, even above what we can get if we only eat whole foods. These are supplements.

There are 2 different doses of each supplement: the nutritional dose and the pharmacological dose. There is no way to get enough from our foods to have a pharmacological dose of anything. The pharmacological dose is the dose that will cause certain therapeutic effects that are safer and more effective than any known medication. The nutritional dose MIGHT be able to be obtained from foods but few people are knowledgable enough to do it. These doses are what the body can use to prevent or slowly correct chronic conditions.

The government is in the process (finally) leaving the RDAs and going to the ODAs (Optimal Daily Allowance) which is the dose that will produce optimal health.
