After trying virtually every OTC remedy for itchy skin patches I had on my ankles, I tried iodine. It relieved the itching immediately, but the next day the patches were itching again, and I liberally applied more iodine. Third day same thing. Fourth day I woke up bright red and swollen over my entire body, including the inside of my mouth and down my throat. Naturally I (finally) went to a doctor who with great insight announced that I was allergic to iodine. After eight months with a dermatologist, the itches are still there, and even though it bothers me, I’m more concerned about the iodine factor. I am under the assumption that iodine is found in quantity in various fish. Is that true, and should I stay away from ALL fish, or just certain types? I’d appreciate any help you can be. The itchy spots have been diagnosed as nummular excema, but that’s like telling me my itchy spots are round. Now I know what they look like and what they’re called, but they still itch!

Hi, Ron.
You MAY, indeed, be sensitive to iodine. However, your "numular eczema" was there before you used the iodine and it would be rare for you to have this kind of condition due to an internal iodine sensitivity.
You would be unable to avoid iodine totally because, in a few years, you would have a horendous goitre. SO, iodine allergy cannot be your only problem.
If I had this, I would first become a serious student of wellness. THEN, I would find the closest Certified Clinical Ecologist (contact the email at aaem@bellatlantic.net )
Let us know what you learn & how you do.

Ron
I also used to have an allergy to iodine, also kelp or seaweed, which is where iodine comes from.
I've been practicing skilled relaxations for nine months and have been on a whole foods diet for three months. I am no longer allergic to iodine!!! I guess that's the "wellness" Dr. Stoll refers to. Go figure...

Thanks, Johnelle.
This is exactly the kind of thing routinely seen with the wellness approach.
