Hey,
My girlfriend was diagnosed a few years ago with PCOS and has been really worried and depressed ever since, but the situation in which she was diagnosed is a bit sketch. She was bulimic for a few years and when she was 18 had very irregular periods, like every 3-5 months. She went to a reproductive endocrinologist who said she had pcos, because she said she had gained 12 pounds, which was a slight exageration but she had gained some. THe doctor measured some her her levels, testosterone was 40 and dheas was like 133. THe doctor said she had alot of acne and she says she didn't and she has dry skin and not oily skin and the dr said she had hirsutism. SHe went on birth control and spironalctone and 2 days later dropped all the weight she had gained. She is a very thin person and has no irregular acne. She has a little excess hair down her stomach and on her chect but none on the face, and it isn't so bad where she has to shave it or something often. SHe doesn't have cystic ovaries and a glucose test wasn't done. SHe may be slightly hypoglycemic but she isn't sure. lately when she tests her blood sugar its around 80.
I guess my question is do you think she has PCOS or are there other explanations. HEr mother has hypothyroidism and endometriosis runs in her family but no pcos. SHe had a laproscopy and they only found some adhesions on her colon. SHe is on a good diet and stays thin so she in not over wieght. SHe has chronic pelvic pain but one dr. suggested interstestial cystitis as a cause partly because she is always very safe. IS it normal to have a little dark hair going down the middl eo fthe stomach to the belly button and a little on the chest. What could be other causes of slightly higher testosterone and irregularity, she's been on birth control for so long now she doesn't no if she'd be irregular now or not but she is afraid to get more lab tests because she's always stressed, but her first lab tests were taken when she hadn't had a period in a few months so wouldn't that alter the results? Thanks
Stephen

Hi Stephen,
I'm sorry I don't know the answers to all of your questions. I do have very similar problems and was on BC pills for many years. I eventually found out most of my problems were related to candida. I have mercury toxicity from my "silver" dental fillings. When I had those removed alot of my blood work and cycles improved. But this must be done correctly, look up the name Hal Huggins to find out how. You can also get mercury from seafood. Mercury causes changes in your gut flora, allowing things like bad bacteria, yeast and parasites to flourish. You eventually end up with leaky gut syndrome, and alot of allergies. It also caused me thryoid, adrenal and neurological problems.
Many other things can cause candida besides mercury, antibiotics and poor diet being some others. There are online tests you can take to determine if candida is the problem. Now that my fillings are out, I need to do chelation to get the remaining metals out. It is expected that this will clear up the candida.
First thing to do is determine whether mercury is an issue by determining potential exposure. Then have her take the candida test for symptoms. In the meantime, she needs to change her diet to organic meat and vegetables and filtered water. Bread, pasta and potatoes, and all sugars and processed foods should be eliminated or reduced as much as possible. Organic veggies should be increased. She should also try some form of skilled relaxation, like yoga or meditation. Moderate exercise is important as well.
Hope Dr. Stoll can help, and correct anything I've said wrong. There is alot of good info on this site if you look in the archives. Another good site is www.curezone.com.
Best wishes,
Bernadette

Alcohol and smoking should be stopped too. It is also helpful to eliminate chemical exposure from cleaning products, fabric softeners, makeup, perfume, etc. One reason is they can be estrogenic. Alot of cosmetics and hair dye contain mercury. Some good brands for cleaners are Seventh Generation, and Ecover. They can be purchased on line, and Whole Foods also carries them, as well as more natural lines of makeup.

Hi Stephen,
I don't know any of the answers to your exact questions, but any time someone has a multitude of health problems like this, I think it's a good idea for them to Practice Serious Wellness by doing the Three Legged Stool to improve their overall health condition. You can read about it in the "How to be Healthy" article on the home page.
I had a lot of health problems too and it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY.
Best wishes,
Happygal

Hi, Stephen.
Listen to Bernadette.
This is a perfect example of a person who needs to practice serious wellness. See the home page for a free protocol and go to the archives in the meantime. See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.
Let us know what she learns and if she has been sick long enough to actually do this.
She can be our wellness poster girl by letting us know how she is doing in about a year.
