i have a question. when i was first diagnosed with rosacea over a year ago the derm. put me on an antibiotic, i forgot which one, but it was a sulfa drug, i got hives big time. now, i am considering taking diflucan for a yeast infection but have been told if i react to sulfa i shouldn't take diflucan. this sounded odd to me because i have taken diflucan before for yeast infections with no problems, granted it has been over three years since the last time i took it, but still, should i heed the warning or trust the fact that i have taken diflucan in the past with no probs?

I guess it depends...who told you that?
I have used diflucan and am also allergic to sulfa.
The diflucan never really helped me anyway. Can you just use a topical?

My husband suffers from Rosacea also. He mixes up a little concoction with fresh aloe, grapefruit seed extract and vitamin E. It is great for the postules but does'nt do much for the redness. I've noticed that the redness is not that bad until he exercises, gets in the sun or overdrinks though. He has managed to at least keep his nose from getting out of shape, except for the redness which comes and goes, it looks like it always did. It looks better since he started doing his concoction then it did back when he was doing all the antibiotics that the docs put him on over & over. The antibiotics imo were a waste of time, money and not to mention what it did to his body as far as the rosacea is concerned. I can't for the life of me figure out why they put people on antibiotics for rosacea when they know "so little" about the condition.

Woody, Lay off the drugs..Get on a good health program, diet, vitamins, detox and drink at least 2 quarts of water per day..Give it 90 days and the rosacea will be gone..My wife did just that and now her skin is peaches and cream..Silver Fox!

I wonder where this information between sulfa drugs and diflucan came from. I can tell you this. I am deathly allergic to penicillin so I am often prescribed sulfa drugs and I have never ever had a problem. Last year, I was prescribed Diflucan for the first time and I developed hives on my legs and had shortness of breath. Thus, I am no doctor but I don't think that there is a connection between allergies to sulfa drugs and allergies to Diflucan.
Also, my doctor indicated to me that adverse reactions to Diflucan are pretty unusual. I think that allergies to Sulfa drugs are pretty common, though I don't know so that seems to negate a correlation as well. Finally, sulfa drugs to my knowledge are used in place of antibiotics.
Diflucan is an antifungal. (Of course, it could be true that sulfa drugs are used for fungus also, but I am not that familiar with the topic of antifungals.)
In the caes of yeast infections, limit your sugar consumption, eat some Stoney Field Farm yogurt, and stay clean and dry and a yeast infection should clear up. Monistat has also always worked for me if the above didn't.
Finally, interesting to note, just because you don't have a reaction to something the first or second time you are exposed to something doesn't mean you are not allergic. Most allergies require an initial exposure before they actually present from what my parents and physicians have always told me.

I think I have the insert from Pfizer about Diflucan. I kept it because I had such a bad reaction to it. I will check that out and let you know if there is a Sulfa problem if you want.
Also, bear in mind that if you don't like taking Benadryl and you think you might have a reaction to Diflucan, you may be quite inconvenienced as you have to continue to take Benadryl for the couple of days that the Diflucan pill is coursing through your bod.

It took a good 8 months before my rosacea budged, and I have a mild case and used Nystatin! 90 days is too optimistic, I'm afraid...of course everyone IS different!

Hi, Carol Y.
What has your husband learned from the rosacea archives?

My husband does'nt come here in fact he rarely gets on the PC. I ordered your book for him but he does'nt read it and I originally came here to find solutions to his medical problems. Everytime I read something here, I do however relate it to him. It always goes back to SR. I think that almost everything that is wrong with him is caused by stress. He watches his sugar intake, he exercises regularly, and his diet is near perfect except for cookie here & there(which is very rare). He stresses over everything, in traffic, in line at the bank, even stresses if anything gets in the way of his exercise program. Everytime I start to say something he says: "I know, I know...20 minutes twice a day.......Yeah yeah Yeah". He rufuses to believe that his impatience/stress is causing his problems. I would like for him to do the "health coaching" thing with you but he won't sit down and write the medical history. I've thought about doing it for him but that would'nt be right. In the meantime, I just prowl around on the internet looking for solutions. I buy all kinds of books for him about meditation & relaxing and try to provide a peaceful atmosphere at home for him. He just does'nt "get it". Thanks for asking Dr Stoll, sorry I talked your head off. haha

Thanks, Carol Y.
Your husband is a perfect example of the truism of holistic healing: the very thing any individual needs to do for the most effect is usually the very last thing they will do.
You are going to have to stop trying to heal him since he is the only one who can do that. Just love him as he is until he has meets up with whatever fate awaits him. Hopefully you will not be left with an invalid to care for.
As my dad used to say: "Ve get too soon oldt and to late smardt."
Good luck!
Walt
