Are the above all connected? I've just been diagnosed with TMJ (by my ENT), who I went to for right ear stuffiness and constant PND (with no nasal symptoms). Jaws are achey but not painful (but I have a very high pain tolerance). I've also noticed mild headaches that come and go, plus I'm just plain TIRED all the time (with eyelid tics that come and go when I'm really fatigued). My dentist says that my teeth show premature wear and tear caused by clenching/grinding and suggested a nocturnal guard. I just moved to a new city 6 months ago for my dream job, while this is a happy change, I do feel stressed by all the changes. I am thankfully healthy (just had full work up, bloodwork looks great). Could my above symptoms all be inter-related or is there something else going on that I should be worried about? Thanks in advance.

What type of diet do you eat?

Besides taking care of your stress problems (look in the Glossary for the 3 legged stool), I hope you will try the night guard. It does stop the clenching and preserves your teeth. Good luck!

Just FYI I had the night guard for 7 years and then developed worse headaches than I had before. The NTI device is better than the mouthguard

Hi Jim -
Was the night guard you used prescribed by your dentist?
Did you have headaches for all the 7 years you were wearing it, or just after that? I wasn't referring to any particular brand. What is the NTI?

I was clenching worse with the night guard. If your symptoms get worse with this, this may be why.

Hi Golda,
Read the article, "How to be Healthy" on the home page for a general description of the Three-Legged Stool, then go to the glossary, other articles, and archives to learn the details. The 3LS would be very helpful for you!
Best wishes,

Hi, Golda.
All of yoru symptoms are basically related to bracing.
Listen to Happygal.
By the way, PND means Paroxysmal Nocternal Dyspnea to me (a cardiac condition).

Oops, I apologize. I meant post-nasal drip.
Thanks for all of your replies.

In terms of diet I basically eat whatever I am craving. Usually try to eat a bit higher protein diet with veggies. I stay away from all sodas but I do like sweets 3-4x/week. My cholesterol is only 112 so I'm not worried about fat.

I had very bad candida and also very bad TMJ (excruciatingly painful) and all the other symptoms you mentioned. I saw a naturopath who told me that when the candida was cured the TMJ would go away. I treated the candida, and the TMJ has 90% cured. It's worth considering. Read the archives on candida, and do a search on the internet for "candida questionnaire." This questionnaire will tell you if it is likely that your symptoms are caused by candida. Candida yeast can affect your joints.
